Hi Guys ... hopping for some help ... have a mate with a 2005 Dyna Super Glide ... his front forks are pretty soft and he is thinking of putting in some progressive springs .

Question 1 ... can anyone inform us as to the standard length of the stock springs so he can gage how worn his are or where we can find out that info ... I have been typing stuff into the internet like spring length for his particular model but have had no luck finding any answers .

Question 2 ... from what I have been reading people are saying if he stays with the standard springs it would be a good idear to go up in his fork oil weight due to the basic construction of Harley fork springs but if he is to change to Progressive springs only go up a notch or not at all due to the way they are meant to work .

Thanks guys for any help as neither he or myself are whiz bang mechanics but would like to know the reasons why certain things work and don't work .

    Cheers Tim .

Race Tech Gold valve emulators and play with the oil weight or change the spring rAte depending on his weight and he won't look back.! Big improvement!!
$169 for the gold valves !!

Thanks for the reply Fat103 ... he is also looking at that type of fix ... also still interested in the standard spring length to see how much wear there has been , so any helpful Dyna experts will be very much appreciated .

    G'day TJU,
Ive got a 74' sportster and put 2" over fork tubes on it recently and re-used the original springs with 2" poly spacers. That bike is almos 40yrs old and the fork springs are as good as new. Never heard of the springs wearing? They may sag but you would have to have the bike fully laden for 50,000km+ to achieve that. There are probably those out there that could tell you they have done hundreds of thousands of km's and never changed fork springs, i'm not sure.
I doubt anyone will have std. spring length specs for you either.

I recently put progressives in my brand new wide glide and was wrapped with the improvement. Kept std oil in there too.
A mate put heavier oil in his 06 heritage recently and reckons it made a difference aswell.
    Cheers,
    Hicksy.

Thanks Hicksy ... my mate has since that inquiry back in April put in the progressive springs with a small spacer plus a slightly heavier fork oil ... he is much happier , thanks for the reply .
