Gday guys, after any advice from anyone that has installed a big bore kit, screaming eagle or otherwise on an 80 cube evo. I have an fxd with 68k on it, close to mint. Have just put chrome short shots on it and an ss carb. I see nrhs do a bolt on kit, the sportster boys all seem to like the 1250 kits.

i want to freshen up the engine, thought this would be a good way to do it. Im not in a position to drop 15-16k on a newer bike, but am a pretty good saver and can manage a couple of grand here nd there. I really like the bike, it doesnt owe me much, and I own in outright. So, I reckon if I do this, I can still sell it in a year or two if I want and I wont really have lost much.

any advice or ideas on labour hours would be really appreciated.

    thanks.

Thanks mate, they are the kits .im looking at. No idea what it will be worth in labour? I dont want to go over 2500 if possible. Just thought it would freshen it up, and keep me trucking for a bit longer!

Thanks Chop, was flirting with the idea of contacting you. I just sold my sporty as is in peices cheap. My Uncle bought it, and ne is pretty handy, and has always wanted a Harley. I have passed on your details to him, as he wants a pillion seat to. Suit 04 xl and a stretch tank, and a detach sissy bar. I had one, on sold it raise money for pipes etc.

i was wondering if it was worth throwing in a new engine down the track. I really dont want to upgrade to a newer bike, its easier for me to pump a couple of grand in from time to time. If I spend 15-16k on a newer bike, Im still going to play around with it. I got this bike for a silly price, and even 4-5k down the track will owe me not as much as you might think. Also, the last 3 or 4 years I have spent all my cash on bike stuff, or bike clobber....got to try and get a bit of a balance Again, bit of golf and a bit of 4 th grade footy( training once a week:))...my mates all thought I must have joined an outlaw mc as I would go 6 mths without a beer to pay for a paint job or something.......anyway, these bikes are a bit of a disease....an enjoyable one, but theres gotta be cheaper hobbies out there somewhere......

Axtell  & S&S make the best  but it's alot of work & bucks , why not just warm the donk over you have with a nice cam & a bit of head work , has the model got a stock cam in her it would be time to replace the inner cam bearing anyway, would be cheaper

Keeping my eye on this thread, have 110k on my 98 evo not using oil or blowing any smoke but when the time comes will have a rough idea what i will be up for.

Its a slippery slope mate. Ive been trawling forums , ringing blokes. And there are so many opnions and ideas....i feel broke already and havent even decided. Im starting to think maybe just a used ss engine altogether. Sell the evo, which actually runs ok anyway....it seems its going to cost a mint either way, as Im not capable of doing much of the labour. Te hammer guys in US want me to send heads etc over, postage both ways feels like dead coin. ...its driving me up the wall. If I can get ss or ultima perhaps for about 4k.....sell the evo for whatever it might be worth....dunno....Im going cross eyed on this...

Go for the S&S. I did my Evo up - SE Heads, 1st oversize, cam, lifters etc etc. It was ok but then I put an S&S 113 in. That made such a difference. The S&S was dearer than you want but it was new and I did purchase it locally. If I was to redo it now I would take up Chopaweeza Enterprises idea. $4500 landed is the way to go.

Imoo, im starting to think that way too mate. I really like the bike, so Im not interested in selling it and buying newer. I reckon a new or decent used donk could be the go. Once all the labour and shite of pulling apart and fiddeling etc, then 6 months later something else frags out due to the age etc. im having a good hard look now. Ss and the ultima ss are looking good. For a bloke like me, I reckon 96" is plenty, and its simlar to what I would have after all the ginning around and I would get warranty, all the chrome rockers etc......investigating now, will let you know...

Gday Hilly, ronnys a good bloke. Funny as f&ck and is good at running your phone bill through the roof. I had thought of him, he powdercoated all my sporty gear. He is a good bloke.
