where the hell does this belong if any where???

on the right is an old hard and deformed o ring i spotted on the bench.

on the left is from the cam rebuild kit.

any ideas on where the hell it goes. read the manual and dont see a spot for it in the areas I am working on.

seems to be part # 11298

Looks like the one that dynoharley described, although the screen is only in the Soft-tails (Beta engines) for balancer hydraulic tensioner fed, + another one below that for the oil feed from the oil tank.  - Rob

Its easy to work out if you tell me what you pulled down from the engine. I have a parts manual that lists every oring on a alpha engine. Don't worry where it came from just make sure you fit the right amount when rebuilding your engine.

I think between you guys and others it is not needed.

cleanout plug on the top of the early cam support plates.  Newer plates no longer have the plug.

This being the case it still doesn't explain the old on being on the bench which was spotless at the start. Could have come from the tool box but that just makes me wonder what else I could have missed.

Thanks for all the help on this one and my other questions some of which may have sounded a bit stupid. First time in a Harley motor so I am not afraid to ask stupid questions.

Was once told the only stupid question is the one not asked.
