Here's a hint for new Tmax with Auto-Tune users with EFI late model motors, especially if you're a rank idiot like me!
What would you do a minute or so after riding off and you look down and see that:
your speedo doesn't work
your odometer doesn't work
the "engine" light is on
the battery light is on
the alarm light is on
your lights work, your indicators work but don't cancel themselves.
Maybe something under the seat has got itself unplugged and this is my first long ride since fitting. I figured that probably I could stop, switch off, restart and the Tmax would re-read everything and all would be well. Or, maybe a fuse had gone and it's all OK as there are 2 spares in the fuse box or maybe I CAN'T RE-START MY BIKE!!!
Being 175km from home guess what I did?? I didn't switch the motor off and I rode home and then switched off. Guess what happened then? It started and ran perfectly!!! DUH!!!! and I missed lunch at the pub with all the boys and girls!
Never mind! I learnt something and it beats the hell out of putting my bike on the back of a truck for the ride home. How embarrassment!! I haven't even got a Yamaha cap to put on.... )
I have no idea what caused the glitch but at least the Tmax is smart enough to fix itself!
cheers
Neil (kiteman)
Sounds like it wasn't initialised properly, you know the 30 cecond on/of 3 times. I beleive after evry time you use the data cable it should be initialised. Other than that F**k knows.
Mr Iccer, it must be a pain-in-the-ass having to remove so much to get at the stock ECM but I don't honestly think there is enough room to fit a piggy-back system (as opposed to a replacement ECM) in there without doing so. I'm sure Scotty will know more about this if he has installed one in a Rocker. My apologies if I'm out of line here!
It may well be worth the extra time. Just make sure to leave the PC cable attached to the ECM so you can easily plug in your laptop in future if you need to.
At least the seat comes off in under 5 seconds!!
Scotty, is there somewhere in the pdf help file that describes the known glitches?
That's quite a coincidence Darkash!!! When you mention "reset the codes..." did you mean that you literally switched off the bike and then re started it or something else???
I believe that, like home computers, the Tmax re-checks itself every time it starts so maybe that's all that is needed. It's good to know that it's a rare occurrence anyway and that it's a "known quantity"!
