Hey, I'm not here to show off my bike, trust me ha ha..........here is my Sportster XL883, according to the interweb, this has a 12.5L tank
Now my fuel light I am led to believe comes on when I have a gallon, 4.5L left in my tank, I am assuming that by the way! I could be wrong...
People have said don't risk going over say 180-190 KMs without filling up. Last week I got to about 185 KMs and panicked, anyhow at the pump to fill still only took just over 9 Litres, so supposedly I have around 3 or so Litres left?
Sorry I know this subject has been done to death but do i have a 12.5L tank...........or more like 10 Litre tank?
Cheers guys, yeah I reckon I'm going to stop having kittens at around 185 kms and try past 200 Kms and see what the pump is telling me
NIce one ; - )
You need to get a better bike that one looks like it leaks like like my old Triumph 3TA back in '68
My girls bike, her fuel light comes on about 185ks, but she can get 240-250ks to a tank without a problem XL883 Low.
But I guess it depends on how you ride that bike.
I think only way to really know how much they hold is to drain the tank and fill it up just not sure if you can trust our pumps to tell the truth so fill up a jerry can & use a glass measuring jug, but you need to also know where the fuel pump picks up the fuel from & how much would be in the tank when the fuel pump starts pumping air or what ever it pumps when it can't get to the fuel, also you might all think because the tank has manufacturers capacity rating that each time you fill up that's the amount you have in your tank. but I think we all may not fill to same level, so it's very tricky trying for maximum range per tank. could be risky on a run in the bush would pay to carry 5L to be safe on a long run in the bush. also, I'm wondering why the EFI bikes don't get better economy? like the new heads have the bath tub chamber like the XB buell? or do they? I think the 883 has an open chamber like the old XL? I would say if the 1200 comes stock with the Bath Tub chamber & the 883 comes with an open chamber. I would only buy a 1200 as the bathtub is a much better chamber, my mates XB Buell EFI goes 380k in the bush on a 18L in frame tank should be same as 1200 sportster. he was hopping to put shit on my old tube frame Carb Buell in economy but we get exactly the same economy every fill up. but we use more in the city that 380k was coming back from Queensland to Sydney.
then two months back my mate that now owns my old Shovelhead wide glide carb (S&S E with thunderjet ) the old Shovel has a 98 Cubic Inch 1650cc motor. he road with another friend ( forgot I have not got friends LOL ) on a new Fat Boy EFI 103 cubic inch the old shovelhead has a big open hemi chamber that would be the worst design for economy you could choose but has twin spark plugs per cylinder that could help but doubt it. anyway the old Shovel went Sydney to Bundaberg & back with the EFI Fat Boy & exactly the same amount of fuel.
so wondering what advantage EFI has?
The girls 883 at 250ks still has 1.6litres left in the tank
