hey guys,
Just wondering what the costs for a replacement stock rear tyre for a 2011 xl1200x should be (dunlop 401).
I have been quoted 412 from the local hd dealer and 290 from a local mechanics. Obviously tending towards the cheaper option.
I questioned the dealer as to why they were so expenive, and they claimed that in adition to the tyre/tube they also have to replace the rim band (that they quote at almost 60 dollars) due to warranty conditions imposed by hd because of the spoked wheels. Fair enough i guess, but unless im mistaken the rim band is the same as a rust band. i.e a thick semi regid peice of rubber. seems just a tad expensive.
Anyone here had their tyres replaced on a 48 and if so what kind of costs?
Also thinking about a pirelli night dragons or a good avon, but as i understand it you shouldnt just swap one tire in a set for a different model, and my font tyre still has plenty of wear left.
i jsut asked harley heaven for quotes on whitewalls for my 48
$250 front, $290 back
Not sure if that helps you one bit but i guess it gives something to compare to.
Cheers for that Sida! I called around a few places in Sydney also including a couple of the HD Dealers and all the dealers seem to be quoting around the $410 mark for a new rear.
Unfortunately there isn't much choice of where to get stuff done up here in supposedly sunny Townsville (it's pissing down up here at the moment), but Lockes Tyres seems the logical choice at around the $290 mark.
Hopefully get the new shoe tomorrow, as rididng around with fuck all rear traction on these shitty oil infested roads is really starting to do my head in.
Got a Metzler last time on my 1200c on the back from the local dealer! cost a lot, can't quite remember how much the qoute was? told me it would cost so much & take coupla hours. They charged $150 more & they took 3 hours longer, could'nt do too much in the arguing dept as they had my bike.
Bike workx in Albury put on a Dunlop a few weeks ago for $290 & picked me up from home when the bike was ready. I took the bike down to Broadford racetrack next day and spent the day dragging my footrests around the track, tyre seemed ok its got no hairy bits on it now!!
Motorcycle tyres in the rain and on the greasy public roads = a bad mix so don't corner hard or you will fall off.
