So I made a mistake and picked up my Iron with stock exhausts. Should have listened to Ron and had the pipes air and dyno done before I brought her. Anyhoo.
After some negotiations with the missus I ordered V&H Slip On's from Harley Heaven. As an aside- nothing but praise for HH- did a query via the forum and their price delivered beat the list and many of the US websites. Buy Aussie (sort of?!) I always say.
Pipes turned up- had a good look at the destructions (yes I am a bloke if anyone asks) and looked at all of the stuff on you tube regarding installs. No issues with that whatsoever.
Put em on and turned on the bike. Holy shit! We have a fence next to the house and therefore something of an enclosed space but even away from there they were deafening. I swear the filth launched its helicopter to try and find me cause the bastard flew overhead about 5 minutes after I fired up.........
Worse than the noise was the effect on the torque. Bike has about 2500km on the clock and the pipes turned her into a slug.
What to do.
Again turning to the forums I looked for a solution. Quiet baffles from V&H get something of a mixed reception on the web but I needed to do something. Or back to stock it would be.
So ordered them from HH-again very good price comparatively, Turned up two days later as promised and I fitted them this am. Very easy fit all considered- great tips on line for install as per the pipes.
What a difference they make. They sure aren't quiet but they take out a lot of the higher harsher tones leaving a nice burbling harley potato sound. Run gently through town they don't startle people. I know this because a prick in a white mitsukazi pulled out in front of me. I know where you live bastard.
Then the best bit. Took Sally (My iron.....all I wanna do is ride (on) Sally ..ride sally ride etc) up Red Hill. The torque was back- the back pressure restored.
Praise be. I'm still smiling as I write this. My Baby is back to her agile old self.
So on the basis that its good to share (most things) .........
Here for your reading pleasure is my story.
