Heard a grindy type noise from the primary cover riding home the other night,,

another 20km on.. the engine light & battery light lit up on the dash..got home o.k.

did a multi meter test found the problem ,took it apart just now..

So my question is ... where do you purchase  replacment parts that isnt going to do this again?

if anybody knows a good aftermarket brand? or part numbers?.where to purchase.that would be good....?..

Dont bother saying a harley dealer, ive rung a couple, the parts arn't in stock & over priced in my opinion.

another design fault from the motor company....

its a design fault that the motor company should have had a recall on, the 8 bolts that hold
the compensating spline to the rotor have no washers, lock nuts,or lock tabs ,they WILL loosen over time.(2006 models)
only a locktite type compound to the thread prolongs it .

Bonkers, thats one of the dumbest answers ive ever heard...

an alternative to finding an after market stator is finding a place that does rewinds .....my experience is that aftermarket solutions ( all made o/s ) can be dodgy.

There was a heap of these issues written up in the heavy duty mag about a yr ago (maybe longer) if anyone has a stash of them they parts they recommended and the supplier were detailed.

    Regards

Use standard Allen head screws and safety wire them up. Its odd that they all let loose at the same time, it could be that the extra 20kms riding pulled the rest out.

well pulled it down, the 8 bolts that hold the rotor to the compensating sprocket undid them selves they got chewed up in the rotor
also destroying the stator, l cant believe the motor company didnt fit a lock tab or nyloc nuts ,or other
why did they not just use the older method of a splinded rotor? they were splined from 1970 onwards, till the evo.l think. no issues..
then comes the twin cam "oh lets bolt it to the compensating sprocket in stead"
you've got me! soon as l took it apart l thought what th!! its only a matter of time before these bolts work them selves loose, so if you have an 06 model HD..
you'd be wise to fix this area up.. l made a locking tab out of thin zinc coated tin plate, bought 8 new bolts with hex head, cause the origonals are button head
so you cant use them with lock tab unless you grind a flat on them..mine were mangled anyway..all 8...
before this happened id heard there was an issue in this area but no one could tell me exactly what it was, all l was hearing was stator !,
something was wrong with the stator !,its the stator !,,the stators were you should be looking get a stator!!
The rotor is damaged but im going to run it (as is) the Stator is rooted, Harley would order me one in for $190.00 & around 4 days wait,
l bought an Accel item in QLD from RoadHawks delivered to my door in Melbourne for less than Half that price, Thanks Guys...
I'll finish this by adding THE Motor Company Shoud have( Re-called) on this problem saving a lot of people many $$ on rotors,,Stators & other damage this issue causes.

krash , arrr the old days ,when rotors were splined, & yr cleaned yr points n carb out off yr went...sometimes it went like that...
    remembered with fond memories..
l'm back up & running as of today..l bought the2006 streetbob off the showroom floor in Brunswick new with 4km on the clock..The motor has never been touched, its the first time the primary cover has been removed from the bike, while on the bike lift l took the cam cover off for a look see as well since id heard of crank run out problems, causing premature cam tensioner wear ,,a relief to see its as good as new in there...Hilly gota agree..last of the 88's & they charge like a mally bull, even my std motor, & the 6 speed best added thing the MC have done in the past decade as far as im concerned, didnt look at or change the inner primary bearing...some other time..oh.2 things !!..06 parts are cheaper cause nobody wants them..& l suppose ive had a good run not touching the motor or trans in 7 years....
