Hi All

I just wanted to let all those with 2012 fat bobs that HD know of a problem with the voltage regulators failing but they are waiting for us to have the problem rather than doing a recall.

The problem apparently is that the battery can be overcharged once the engine is rev ving becasue of the regulator

This then caused my tail light to black out along with my dash lights when riding

When I was at idle (where i almost had to stall it to get the revs down) all was good because the engine was not generating the extra volts and all lights came back on.

So, watch for the motor idling higher, the engine light coming on and dash lights going out. I have the dash where the 6th gear has an extra illumination and this wasnt coming on in top gear so it was easy to see there was a problem.

I went to my bike builder and he couldnt find the problem so he ended up ringing HD.

They replaced it under warranty but it sucks a little that they wait for the problem to arise first.

Im not sure what other models or years it affects but as soon as my mechanic quizzed them about what the problem could be, they knew straight away and had to order one in.

one would think that as its a known problem they would have some in stock 

but once again theres that so called service for you at a stealership
