Whinging Neighbors - Noise

Well, received a letter today from the Wanneroo Shire,

"Regarding excessive noise being caused by the revving of a motorcycle engine at the above property.

The complaint alleges that the vehicle is reved at the above property for 15 to 30 minutes at approx 5:30am each morning, causing excessive noise which is adversely affecting the complaint." Blah blah blah.

Funny thing is I have only ridden the bike to work twice since May 2012 and certainly don't sit there revving for 15+ minutes, and I leave just before 5am. Lucky I didn't get the V&H big radius I was originally planning on getting.

Some people just have it in for bike riders unfortunately. They make shit up to make the story 10 times worse than what it originally was. What do you do now? visit the neighbors and complain about their noisy dog, stop riding? No good huh.

my neighbours are fine with me, as i understand that they maybe sleeping when i leave/return and they also have kids, so i try my best to keep the noise to a minium. I usually roll out of my drive way in gear with clutch in and start and ride off. Modern engines and oil really dont need to be warmed up for 5-15 mins if you ride accordantly. When i first got my bike, i approached all my neighbours and asked what were their sleep habits so i can try and work around not making noise when they are sleeping....when i return home i shut her off and roll up my driveway into my shed. All my neighbours are great.....if you are ignorant and think fuck them etc you'll be getting more letters....

unfortunately the way it is set up is that people can just keep complaining (in victoria) to cops and they send out a "go get checked" letter ordering you to have your pipes checked costing 50 bucks each time.... a mate of mine has been sent 4 times... some people are just assholes....as long as you are a good neighbour they should just cop it sweet....

Feel for you Dyna12 as it seems someone may have a hidden agenda but some people do deserve it.

We have got one clown down the road that revs the fuck (and I mean revs the fuck) outa his harley and noisy backfiring POS v8 ute every chance he gets whether it morning, noon or night, both streets and around the corner covered in burnout marks. Had a chat to him originally, then a loud verbal discussion and still no good so reported directly to the cops. Gave them the regular times he went past, address etc and a recording of how fucking loud it was when sitting in my lounge. They confirmed with a few other neighbors, waited for him and booked him. Was quiet for a few weeks but notice he has started playing up again except goes a different way. I can accept doing it occasionally as we all get the urge but this dick was doing it around 8 - 10 times a day at one stage. His house is approx 150mtrs away and i can hear him every time when he leaves even over the tv or radio. There is just no need for it.

As with others, I keep it as quiet as i can in the street as a few neighbors have very young kids and I personally don't want someone making shit loads of noise while I am sleeping or chilling at home. I very rarely crank it up in any residential street, really no need and personally think you look/sound like a dick anyway.

Yep, I had Short shots on my Sporty and used to leave for work at 06:10 each morning. but I got myself ready to go, started it and straight out the driveway at minimal revs. Never had an issue with any of the neighbours.
Not saying it's your fault mate, certainly doesn't sound that way...

I've got no problems with my neighbours, I just be as discreet as possible, no hassles.

I'm afraid the neighbors (across the road) have always been whingers for the whole 12 years we have been here. They don't get on with anyone in the neighborhood. When the kids were younger we even had the cops knocking on the door due to em kicking the footy around out the front.

Terroristone and Normthe1, I do the same when leaving, especially if leaving early (once last year and once this year) I roll out the shed, start up and ride off gently  and riding in suburbia I take it easy. Actually I take it pretty easy all the time now a days, love just cruisin. And at the end of the day the Screamin Eagle Mufflers arn't very loud at all.

FLHuTCHU, 10 times worse than what it originally was is an understatement.

yes some neibours winge for the sake of winging, got nuthing better to do and like others, i am sensible when riding around the neibourhood, buts its the fuckwits on harleys that dont give a fuck  and like nothing better to do than stir up the street. and you wonder why the epa is fining the fuck out of everyone. Then the problem occurs that posters like first post who rode his bike only twice at that hour are immediately tarred with the same brush that some dickheads that still think its cool to run with near straight out pipes at all hours in local neibourhood.

I haven't received one of those letters, so I don't know what the consequences actually are, but I assume the council is just doing their job by sending the notice out, and that they can't actually do anything about it.

However, if what you say is true (about the exaggerating complainant), then I'd be inclined to reply to the notice putting my side of the story to them. It may be that the complaining neighbour does this sort of thing a lot, and the council may be more inclined to believe your side of the story.... and so not resort to any further action.

Good to hear about all the riders been so considerate of  their neighbours-but they don't seem to care about anyone living a little further away. Reading your posts you seem to be admitting your exhaust noise is loud and excessive but you don't give a damn as long as you do it in my street and not yours.I get the blame and not you. Thanks

I have been riding for 42 years-first bike was triumph speed twin. There are a number of people on the road and one on this forum that seem to think the same. If your the sort of badass that rolls your bike down the driveway and down the road only to start it up in front my house or my neighbours then I suppose we will just have to live with that for fear of been called names.
