how ya going guys , just after some info on my speedo speed for me 74 shovelhead , i have owned it for 14 years and the speedo use to read pretty close to the right speed ,  (21" front wheel speedo drive) over the year has been getting alittle worst , not oto bad , then the other day i changed the speedo cable (broke) and now it about 20kms out and at around 120 kms an hours the needle jumps around afair bit , im thinking the speedo drive is worn , but i would have thought it would slow down , any help to get it back on track would be great , thanks Wal

I broke a cable on my 85 Evo, so I fitted the GPS from the car so I knew how fast I was going. Turns out with the new cable and drive, I am18 klm out on the speedo?

yes 1to1 is gearbox driven,,,,2to1 front wheel driven,, if its out that far & needle bounce is going on it needs rebuilding,
the speedo will be placed in a jig for the bezel to be removed with out damage, the insides will have a build up of soot & the like, around the manetic cup & other parts, the speedo bounce usually occurs when the spring is not at tension any longer, mostly due to vibration & wear,, it has to be taken apart cleaned worn parts replaced, re-calibrated, assembled, its abit more involved than that but you get the picture,,l use to collect HD speedos and had just about 2 of all model big twins from 1935,ive sold most now & only have about 6 or 10 most have been rebult, up till about 1966 l forget the correct year now but about then, they were made by stewart warner ,they started getting cheap from then on, l mean cheap internals..
l cant get any more restored now since he died eating a pie in his shed, & was the only reliable guy l know or knew.that restored car ,bike ,speedometers..some of the after market brands are o.k. ive been lucky with a couple of them, unlucky with others, now l dont bother unless its an origonal for the bike its going on..Good Luck with what you Decide.... .
