Ethanol in fuel, how does it effect performance ?

One of the regular servo`s I visit has now got 100 octane fuel wich has 10% ethanol , or E10 wich also has 10% but is 95 octane, I know that it is in eastern states but I have  never seen it here in Perth. My question is How does it perform in a twin cam compared to a 98 octane without ethanol, is there any noticable difference? & is there any problems with engines down the line, your thoughts ?

The manual states that there wont be an issue below 15% ethanol content. That said, almost all of us heavily modify our motors. In terms of problems down the track, I couldn't answewr that.

Ethonal gives more power, is cheaper, is better for the enviroment, but it burns faster - which means its not really cheaper. I put it in the commodore, but I haven't even thought about putting it in the bike. Everyone says it wont cause problems as long as your vehicle is made for the ethonal rating.

well never seen the octane on an ethanole pump in the servo just E10 how do we know what octane?

but ethanole is like alky so needs about 9afr  were normal petrol needs about  12 to 14afr but @ 10%? you can do the numbers, but i'm thinking that 100octane ethanole is probably 85% ethanole like the V8 supercars use . i used to race & run Alky & it seemed to use twice as much fuel.but you need high comp to get the most from it.

I stopped at a servo selling ethanol blended fuel about a few weeks ago. Tank was almost empty and I didn't want to risk getting caught out. I put in about 5 litres of the 98 or 100 stuff just to get by for until I got back home from cricket training. I didn't notice anything different, but took it fairly easy until I was able to get to another servo the next day and fill her up with 98 octane, normal unleaded fuel.

Save a couple of cents per litre, but use more.........
Why would anyone bother? If the govt was fair dinkum and really wanted us to use it, they make it half the price or something.
I'm guessing there's a good reason why they tell people not to use it in light planes.......

Used the 100 ethanol blend for a while. Bike ran good, but the outstanding thing is that you definitely don't get as many K's to the litre as you do with the 98. Back to using 98 all the time again. (If you were only doing short rides most of the time, you may not notice the difference as mucH).
