intake & exhaust valves , guides, carb, manifold, carb kit, & a hand full of other small parts ...
This set of heads are 1950 items, they are in good usable condition, valve guides didn't have to be replaced, i'm leaving the brass seats alone, new valves lapped into place a set of valve springs/collets, the rocker blocks did need honing a little for the rocker arms to be correct. & a set of screw in manifold nipples to suit a 1955 up manifold,im not using the one in the picture (pre1955).just yet.. The heads are on the bike & bolted down..
Bought a Linkert M74-B Carburetor, ive never owned one, never used one, never thought id bother with one, i'll see how it works out,,, put a kit through it cause it had been shelved for a number of years by the looks of it, the internals did look good, besides the needle and seat being a bit gummed up id reckon it would have run 'as is' the manifolds an origonal steel item ,chromed at some point , now with a bit of surface rust but nothing to bad, any way its ready and on the bike,
G'day kickinon. Nice bike you're putting together. But I notice in one of your photos that the front head has an intake valve oiler attached to the exhaust side.
Eric
seems the linkert carb & internal panhead throttle works in reverse, turning the throttle pushes the solid wire cable, opening the linkert butterfly, as opposed to (normal) set up (later carbs like bendix, keihin, etc,)turning the external throttle pulls the cable opening the butterfly, l dont have the handle bars to set up the earlier type,(i'll look into the correct set up later down the track) for now to get the bike running i've made some parts that'll work out...l saw a simalar thing on one of the u.s. forums..
used some thin alloy plate about 2mm thick, and some of the brass tap left overs, the young bloke at the mower shop gave me the spring, i'll put 2 photo's up,1 in the closed poss & 1 in the open poss,& is there any way to make these pictures smaller??
As you mentioned, original H-D Panhead throttles at the carby end are push-style as opposed to pull. But a pull-style internal throttle was also used as original for some later H-Ds and I had one on my 1974 E-Glide.
I have an original H-D internal throttle and I’ve used it on my Pan at times over the years but currently I’m running an external throttle with a similar set-up to yours atop the carby. First photo below shows an aftermarket throttle lever on my spare M-74 B:
Next picture shows my other Linkert with an aftermarket throttle lever arm mounted above the throttle lever. In the second photo I used a couple of small washers as spacers between the top of the throttle lever and the underside of the throttle lever arm:
My frame is a genuine H-D 1958-64 style and under the lower reinforcement strut there is an original tab:
The tab accommodates a carb cable clamp:
The clamp secures an internal throttle cable but your frame doesn't have the tab under the strut. I don't think the tab was there as original for the first few years of Pan rigid frames and I think the tab was first introduced about 1955? Your frame appears to be about 1953 to either early-54 or mid-54? Is there a date code on your frame top engine mount?

fuel line is a lenth of copper l had , & fuel line rubbers (seals) l cut from a piece of petrol hose about 1/4 inch long, (will cut some 2mm longer) looked at an exploded view in 1961 parts book wasn't sure but they work,& dont leak, So bike's getting fuel , has a fat spark , g/box oil & motor oil,all electrics working, kicked it over a few times with a battery charger conected, she fires but flames from the carb.i'll check the timing & read up on the advance/ retard setting .. Things left to do .. /left side buddy peg. /rear stand catch.. /battery.. / linkert aircleaner backing plate.. / buddy seat spring set up.. / shorten the front brake cable & alloy tube about 50mm /stiffer seat srings.. / hi/lo light switch sticking
Hilly,
i'm very happy with the bike,
i'll add a few cosmetic parts to it still,,,not to much,,,
& got a hankerin to start on another i've been collecting parts for... ,
The Panhead?
except for a rear stand catch and a choke lever thats about it...
i've started a 1970 shovelhead......
