Hi All
I am looking at getting my first Harley in the not too distant future.
This Saterday just gone (2:3:13) i found myself at a Harley Davidson dealrship in Perth checking out the Street Bob & Superglide Custom , i was talking to the salesman and he asked "do you want to go for a test ride" . I had to think for a minute as the last time i had ridden anything like a Harley (and please forgive me for the comparison) was my 250cc Virago back in 91 , after that it's been a coupple of BMW's , one road trail and jap sports bikes.
I said yes and before long I found myself sitting on a Switchback waiting for two others who were test riding Ducati's and the bloke from the dealership who would be taking us on the test rout.
I must admit that i was somwhat intimadated knowing the weight of the bike and not having ridden one before but i made it out of the carpark without doing anything stupid and withinn a few hubdred meters was getting a handle on the controlls , seating postion and gears.
One of the blokes testing the Ducati's was being a little anoying slowing down and then accelerating , wasting petrol and not going that fast but the overwhelming imperssion i was getting from the Switchback was that i was relaxed , comfortable and enjoying the ride.
We got back to the dealership where i parked up the SwitchBack and thanked the bloke led us on the test ride , I chatted with the salesman for a bit , got his card and hopped onto my bike and went home.
For a long time i didn't see what atracted people to the Harley Davidson ,but after having ridden one i can see that there's going to be one parked in the shed soonner rather than later.
Regards
Arron
Hey Arron, It's a bit of a different world coming to the Harley way of life. I have had Jap bikes all along til a month ago I got my first Harley. I am in love. But the thing that I was not prepared for was the fact that no one here in Perth nod's at Harley riders. On any of my other bikes, there was a 99 out of 100 response. The only nod I have had so far was yesterday from 2x patched up 1%'s who rode past me in a car park and they nodded first. I am blown away by the crappy attitude that other riders seem to have. But that doesn't stop me loving the rumble. The forums are full of good advice and what seems to be good people. Ask lots of questions and test ride lots of bikes. I'm not a huge fan of the Switchback. I don't know if it's the look or something as simple as the single disk that puts me off but I'm 100% sure that heaps of guys don't like the full dresser that I ride either. There are plenty of good models though. good luck.
hi Mrjhodges, I am looking at the StreetBob as my intorduction to HD motorcycles , it's simple and basic and ( from my point of view at the moment) is all i want at the moment.
Hi Dyna12 , i hear an understand where you are coming from , just have to sort a couple of things first.
Welcome
Welcome to the forum Arron, nearly got a Fatbob a while back but then decided on a Fatboy,no matter what you end up with you will love it.
Hey welcome
Welcome, it seems there are a lot of new members from WA recently, hope you find that special bike for you soon.
Welcome Arron, fairly new to Harley's myself..
Welcome Aaron, lots of second hand we loved and looked after bikes out there on the market too,if $$$ is a worry.Good luck.
Finally had another Saturday off and took a SuperGilde for a test ride at Perth H-D (as IRON & others have suggested) , it was good having ridden it and the Switchback so I have an idea on the differences between the 96 & 103 cube motors as well as mid and forward controls. I also had more of a chance to look at the gear indicator/tacho etc , and it seems user friendly.
They had a limited edition Street Bob at the dealership , not sure on the red rims but the 103 cube in the Street bob is something that interests me.
Will have to have a think about it over an ale or three " border="0" />
