+1, once I've put them on for the first time, couple of bikes ago, never looked back, first mod it is apes.
now I ride a RK with 16", just in line with my shoulders and I could ride all day long.
easier on the neck and shoulder muscles, better back posture and easier to manoeuvre at low speed.
You can also ride down the road on the shittiest old banger with apes, next to your mate on his brand new $gazillion chrome fandangle and everyone will look at the big bad chopper.
I put 16's on while I was recovering from shoulder surgery (rotor cuff in both shoulders) never had an issue other than the bars slightly blocking line of sight at roundabouts, very comfy and we regularly ride 2 hours to get to a club/poker run and then 2 hours home. Never had an issue with legality and have been pulled over 3-4 times. Best way is see if you can get a ride on someone elses.......good luck.
What about these ??
Thanks everyone for the feedback.
Well I decided to go with the HD 16" Fat Ape kit and started installing tonight. Was all going well until it was time to install the lower brake line...about 3-4 inches short. According to the HD catalogue (page 823) I required part # 38132-11A to suit a 2012 FXST (I think??). The packaging has the correct part number so I am thinking either the wrong brake line in the packaging or I have read the model & part # wrong?? Not happy as I was on a roll tonight with the install.
These are called apes!!

Hi Deadwood
Apart from being too low for you were the R6C 8" bars any good. Thinking of going that way with my FXST. dont want to go much taller as trying to avoid extending wiring and new cables etc
Thanks
SJM
I ended up going with the 16" from HD and have just finished fitting them up. Easy as shit to change everything over and done with a mate in around 4 hours.
