Ied Wires ... Good or Bad .

Hi Guys ... have got my pipes and air fillter kit and am just about to look at getting the new girl remapped ... i realise there are quite a few choices ... Just recently RetroMan recomended trying Night Rider IED wires and from there PR Blurb it seems to make sense .

Was hoping there might be a few other people who had used them and what there thoughts were ... i am not looking at doing any motor work for some time so the idear of these wires sounds appealing .

Bike is a 2008 FXSTC ... Pipes will be Freedom Independence Shorty`s ... Air Fillter is S&S stealth with the Air Stream cover .

These wires are surposed to trick the Stock Ecu into running a richer fuel mix if i have got the jist of the blurb ... can it be that simple or is there something i am missing .

Thanks guys for any assitance and thanks Retroman if you are reading this for the idears .

    Tim .

I ve read about 50 forums on the subject & then ordered mine a week ago. Should be here around end of feb 2013. I got the variable version cause I figure that $130 to get it pretty good vs $600 for maybe very good (depending on dyno time) is fine by me.
That extra money gets me highway pegs & a riders backrest.
I'll let you know my thoughts soon.

     hi,

it sound as though you may wont "the most" out of your bike, give the xieds a miss and go for a tuner

i have them on my TC96 wide glide, cycle shack slip ons and hi flow air cleaner, wouldnt have a clue if they do anything man, got em out of texas for $120aus, there often some on ebay.com.au for around $70-80,

i do mostly freeway, country road running, plugs all look good,

only thing i noticed was bike running smoother at low speeds

    thanks

I've used them on a few bikes after going down the modified pipes, air intake, cams and tuner / carby route over the past 20 years. Ya needed to poke something into the evo motors to get them moving a bit, but with the TC motors and at my age, I don't need to get all the ponies outta the bike anymore and have found that drilling the rear baffle out, regularly cleaning the stock air filter and using Vieds seems to do the trick for fuck all of my pension money, plus the bike seems to retain the low down grunt that wasn't there from after trickin them up too much. The motor will still hit the rev limiter pretty quick in this form, so if I'm a tad slower than the next guy, do I really give a fuck....It just depends on what "does it for you". Just spend some time reading the night rider blurb.  NIght riders won't replace a full tuner with heavy mods done, just the basics.    Also be careful with nominating your model as each set comes with it's own stock connectors to plug and play and some aren't interchangeable.  Nothing will beat a full dyno tuned bike fitted with an adjustable tuner and it all comes down to having the money to blow on it, but It's your choice in the end,  VIeds are a good short term filler if you want to go down that route later. A lot of guys fuck emselves up with science going down the high performance route with race tunes instead of street tunes and seem to be constantly tinkering trying to get it right, instead of just riding and enjoying it.   Good luck with your decision.

At risk of repeating myself ( and I am here !) Ied wires and the variants are the " best bang for the buck " bar none.

I used them for 3 years until I got fully into TTS tuning. I fitted them for many other dudes as well with good results.

Hi Guys Thanks for the replys ... just back from a trip down to the World Super Bikes and then some tourist duties over the Great Ocean Road , up through Halls Gap down to Ballarat and then home just now 11.30 Thursday night ... sadly not on the bike this time , did that trip or most of it 9 years ago ... it`s easy to understand how good you southern fella`s and girls have it , some truly amazing roads , especialy during the week when there are no scholl holidays .

But back to the point at hand , Retroman , thanks again ... Ozymax thanks for the info ... all others , as said above , thanks for the replys .

Gidday Bulldog ... i`m with you and a very big thank you to RetroMan for putting me onto these little beauties ... fitted mine the other day and all i can say is Bloody great .

Of course for those who have viewed my post regarding my concern at the top end speed of my 2008 FXSTC , how much of the improvement is down to the XIED`s i`m not sure as i sorted out my bad habit of changing up to 6th gear way to early and now hardley ever use it and of course have changed my pipes as well as my air cleaner but it certainly dosent seem to be running as hot as before and is way more responsive .

My XIED`s were $113 from East Coast Custom up here in Rainy old Qld... it does make one wonder why the MoCo. even bothered about 6th gear as the Yank speed laws are worse than ours from what i have read and heard ... so i am one happy little { i wish i was little , Lol } Softail rider .

     Hi,

not sure why 6th gets questioned so much, with air cleaner change you will feel a little pull in all ggears

i use 6th all the time on the road, change into it anytime from about 90km on a flat section, saves a lot of petrol

    thanks
