Header modifications

Hi. Dont know if this has been posted before and hope someone can shed some light on modifications to my stock 2 into 2 headers on a 2012 Fatbob.  My one has been gutted and I run it with SE mufflers.  In a couple of posts over the last little while I have seen photographs where the collector have headers opened up, gutted and a baffle put in seperating the two inlets to the collector.  The last one I saw ran from the front to almost the back and was drilled to allow some mixing between.

    So for anyone who knows:)

Is this something I should have done?  Whats the reasoning for doing it? Whats the best practice for doing this?

    Thanks Fred

The touring bikes have the catalytic converters in the merged downpipes ( AKA "Headers")

Softails and most Dynas have the cats in the stock OEM mufflers for the Australian market

Your bike would have had the catalytic converters in the mufflers ? Unless the Fatbob is different ?

Those video clips of cat removal you are describing are all on touring bikes , some "mixing" of the gasses in each downpipe is still good for torque

The "Dyna switchback" will have the cat in the 2:1 bit no doubt, but I have not worked on one of them as yet

You live and learn as they say . A mate of mine had one of the first Fatbobs, and it did have the cats in the mufflers I'm sure !

No wonder all the recent Fatbobs have V&H complete systems here in Perth then !

yea they just keep changing shit, by the weight of the stock mufflers you think they both had cats in them.

Still wanting to know if these baffles are really required or not. I am without the baffles at the moment and around 5300-5400 it get some bad missing going on. I have the limiter set to 6200 and its come off the dyno punching above its weight in all other areas. Any comments welcome. Thanks Fred

Your talking about a splitter in the area where it goes from 2 to 1 and back to 2 right ? Required No, may help/ well maybe but a bit of work to install and then re dyno tune to find out.

What did your dyno tuner offer as the cause of the missing?
