Toying with removing the front mud guard on my Sportster as I think I prefer the look of the 'naked' front wheel

I guess this isn't the best thing in the rain

Anyone had no issues with removing there's when they are riding etc

get a fork brace if you remove it, as your fender helps to stop flex in the forks which you will notice if you like to push in the twisties.

I'm running an RSD tracker brace on my Iron, looks the shit and I really like the way it comes up! You do get a little water in your face from the wheel, however if you're riding in the rain..........what difference does it make?

There are a few different types/brands of fork braces around, some work better than others, do your research and pick what will work for you, if your not a spirited rider the RSD one will be fine.

I was thinking about the brace off a 48 to go onto my custom. Any thoughts?

The answer to that question would depend on whether you were willing to pay the fine if caught.
Because according to the Australian road rules, vehicle standards......

    Mudguards and spray suppression

    (1) A vehicle must have firmly fitted:
    (a) a mudguard for each wheel or for adjacent wheels
