done a couple of smart tunes a while back and realised that i did with rain sock on filter i was thinking this might affect the amount of air flow through filter any comments would be great thankyou.

wouldn't you tune it in the configuration that you ride it?

Yes, its a restriction. Rain sock is just that, a rain sock. I wouldnt ride with it on every day. Take if off and store it in the fuse / ecu compartment (if its a dyna) and just chuck it on if the weather turns sour

yeah...scrunch it up in your hand, and see how much area it takes up,,probably 2% reduction in air flow

WTF is a rain sock is that a HD condom that fits your air filter to stop nasty H2o from getting inside your engine and cleaning it ?

Well to you blokes that think a rain sock restricts air flow, ya dreaming

just pulled my bike off the dyno did a run with sock on and sock off it made no difference

leave it on if you have one as it will keep the larger particals away from ya filter

Hi, I'm new to the forum and thought this may help you. I done some testing with the SE heavy breather recently on my Dyno. 103 cube Dyna with S&S 585 cams and V&H big radius. I done some runs without the rain sock then done runs with the rain sock fitted and didn't get any measurable changes in AFR or HP and Torque. I then wrapped tape around the rain sock a bit at a time. I almost had half the filter surface area coverd before I started to change my readings. My Conclusion is that the heavy breather flows at least twice as much air as required. So I would run the rain sock all the time to protect your filter from debri damage etc.  I always tune with the rain sock fitted. Cheers.

The rain sock works generally pretty well in rainy wheather but i have had experiences recently where ive come round a corner and water was flowing across the road, just a inch or two deep. With the small front guard on my bike, the water splashes up straight on to the underside of the sock, Then my bike slows down and starts spluttering and stalls, Waitèd a bit and then started it, smoke and steam come out the pipes to the point you cant see an inch in front of you, and i mean heaps of it, then away i would go if the storms passed over a bit.

This has happened a few times. So ive got a half round bit of plastic that in really heavy rain or flooding rain, a attatch it to underside of sock with heavy duty rubber bands, works a treat. doesnt make no difference to performanve. I dont need to use the plastic in heavy rain as rain doesnt affect sock.

    Hi Carbon Fibre,

A CUSTOM map is........ The map we write is to suit YOUR bike and not just a download canned map. No 2 bikes are the same. No 2 bikes end up with the same map.

An ADVANCED map is........We tune each cylinder individually. Starting on the rear cylinder. We take an air fuel sample from the exhaust about 2" from the cylinder head. We carry out a series of tests at all throttle positions throughout the whole rev range and adjust the map as required to acheive our target AFR. When the rear cylinder is correct and complete we carry out the same process on the front cylinder. Then we go through all other available adjustments. ie Start up fuel, throttle response, decel popping etc, etc.  Very time consuming but well worth the effort. The biggest thing I have come to realise is, If you have any time restraints while Dyno Tuning a Harley you just dont get results. The job isn't finished till it's finished. Cheers Brian

    Hi Hilly,

I have used the TTS system a few times with mixed results. There are so many systems available for Harleys these days. Seems a new one pops up every day.  Each system takes months of testing and learning to acheive my required results. For the time being I am only doing SEPST, PC5 and Power Vision. I have been using each of those systems since they were first introduced and I can guarantee the best possable results. I also Dyno tune the New Injected Motocross race bikes and we have the same problem there aswell. For these bikes I use the Ausie made Vortex ECU with awesome results.

    Cheers Brian

The TTS was the original Harley race tuner for a decade before Kent Moore tried to copy it.
