Gidday guys ... have got myself a 2008 FXSTC ... only 1200 K`s on her when bought so still pretty tight ... still have restricted pipes and air cleaner but will soon be putting on some Freedom Shorty`s and a S&S Airstream aircleaner and filter to hopefully make her breath a little better ... of course as well as getting her remapped .

My question is even though it is still restricted shouldnt it be able to sit comfortably on more than a 100 K`s without feeling it is working overtime ... from Zero to 90 or 95 she pulls like the proverable train but sitting on that 100 k mark she feels real rough ... it does seem to get a little better if i push her up to the 110 or even 120 but i dont want to do any damage .

There have been  Bikes from my past  that have had dead spots in their rev range and i was wondering if this is possibly something simurlar ... yes i have come from a Sport bike back ground and i realise the Harley is never going to or is sursposed to rev like a Jap bike but surley a 96 cube engine should be able to sit on a 100 or 110 K`s without feeling  like there is something wrong .

Would love to hear all or any thoughts ... Tim .

Some kind of tune , TTS , SEPST or whatever. IED wires from Nightrider work well , good bang for the buck.

Air filter changing , any way you choose. An HD 1499 drop in element from K&N works OK for the money,

Any freeflow muffler of your choice on the stock downpipes. Khromewerks as good as any and as well priced.

Those 3 changes will get your 96 breathing , and your "dead spot" will be gone. It's the stock factory EPA tune that's doing that to the bike right now.

Try those before any cam changes , you may be well surprised at the results for fairly low $ spend !

Thanks guys ... have the pipes , a set of Freedom Independence shortys , a little bit longer than Vance & Hines ... surrposedly a couple of guys who did the original designs for Vance & Hines left and started Freedom ... have a S & S Airstream Aircleaner and breather kit on the way ... it`s the one that has the sort of modern Teardrop look with some healthy air inlets in it .

Is SEPST the Screaming Eagle one and who make TTS and i know i should know better but what are IED wires .

I`m leaning towards what you have said Retroman and keeping my fingers crossed that the stock factory tune like you mention is the main reason for the lack of grunt .

I have this same question posted in the general discussions area as well i think and have had some great advice there too ... one main area i`ve been stuffing up it appears is changing into 6th gear way to early , I`ve been getting onto the motorway and changing up at about 100 which is way to early so it seems , so change of riding style is on the way , Lol ... so with all the friendly help and some humorous susgestions i will hopefully have a nice free reving beast soon enough .

Thanks guys ... this is why i joined the forum ... Tim .
