Have been thinking about this for a while now. The heritage has pretty poor lighting on High beam. Still not sure about going LED ($$$!!!) or HID?

I've fitted the LED as well on the Road King.
    Nothing short of fantastic!

If you ride at night, this is the way to go.

I fitted one to my Deluxe around 14 months ago, great light both day and night, one the weekend I copped a rock and cracked the lens pretty badly but no damage to the lights. All the lights work. I have remove the remaining glass.
Been to the local dealer to see if there is a replacement lens, they say you need to buy the complete unit $600 +
Has anyone got info how to get a new lens without replacing the whole unit or after market lens. ? ?

Shiny brand new Trucklite Phase 7 ones are about $200 plus postage from the US (ebay), but they only come in 7 inch size. I bought one and a gumtree second hand fatboy headlight to put it in, as my old one was 5 3/4 inch. Made a profit on selling the old 5 3/4 one which paid for the 7' headlight housing, postage and had $50 over, so it was a $150 headlight when all done. The headlight H4 plug can be pulled apart (electrical spades popped out) with a hairpin and pushed back together so there is no need to cut the wires to swap the headlight like most people do. Miles better than the dim POS imitation candle that was there before, which was only really any good on city streets with street lights. Light is a strong beam with a centre spot so adjustment needs to be done right or it looks like its not working properly. Puts out a lot of light and very directional, the light is more in a smaller area in front and across the road, not everywhere like a normal headlight. High beam goes a long way down the road, more of a white, not yellow light like a headlight. Havn't been flashed by other motorists either so it isn't blinding anyone or musn't look like one of those annoying D/head funny coloured ones. Well worth it and less than the $660 (2013) at the dealers for a HD one. Still want to try a ebay AU (third gear) one in case they are good value one day ($70-$80 globe and holder complete) maybe on the little bike, but bought this one from the US before our dollar drops any more. Like it a lot, money well spent.

    LED LOW beam.

LED HIGH beam, shows how directional the beam is, maybe a bit more to the sides would be nice as there is more than enough in the middle of the road. May put one or two little ones connected to high beam to light up the sides for country roads. Might be just that the middle is so good it makes the sides look dim, but I think that the sides are actually still brighter than the HD headlight, looking at the next picture shows this as well.

Standard HD headlight, LOW beam, hand held so not on same level as LED (it is angled up a bit more), but plugged into bike wiring system to show using the same voltage supply. It was 3 in the morning and poor quality of pictures is due to using the phone.

The down side, going around a corner. Bike on side stand with light pointing straight ahead, LOW beam, Really need a stock one to compare it to because they are not much good either, also phone pictures are not always the best. Flat rectangular beam shows up well here.

HIGH beam, I like corners but have to be cautious at night until I put couple of extra little side LED ones on. Sometimes I think the abundance of light straight in front clouds the picture. Here the bike is on side stand with light pointing straight ahead,  the very flat rectangular beam works well in some situations an not so well in others. In a couple of years this will probably be fixed as they are getting better with each new light. It pays to remember that all the LED lights seem to be made for cars, trucks and military vehicles with 7 inch round headlights, but we put them on bikes, we are a small market segment.  The led shows up street signs maybe a bit too well, like Km down the road on high beam. The flat beam means they work in any country and are not left or right hand drive specific. There does not seem to be much difference between the different brands of LED headlights for the beam pattern, its just how they are, if you think the $660 for the HD logo on the box is worth it, buy one.  Why are there better lights on a $1200 scooter from Taiwan than on a $30,000 Harley? Would I put the standard light back on = NO, its a keeper, lower power to run and got better lights without annoying other motorists, because getting hit by an oncoming high beam on a bike at night is not good for your health.

The Trucklite ones are polycarbonate lens I think, might be more rock resistant, its something simular to aircraft windows, maybe because they are also sold to the military who don't want fragile stuff, just guessing here.

Try typing ebay motors without the AU, this gives world wide ebay You will have to log in seperately to the Ebay Australia, same name and password and stuff still apears on your local myebay list, but to access and bid, have to log in through Ebay motors.com. Then motorcycle parts, this opens up a whole new world of parts that do not appear on ebay Australia. Then new or used etc to narrow the list, as there may be 20,000 items under your seach title. VERY important to check that sellers will post/ship to Australia and for how much when doing this and their ebay rating, postage from different sellers can vary a lot than the item price. If their rating is below 99% be careful and read why (some people will complain about anything even from a good seller or try and twist their mistakes around onto someone else). Postage from the US usually turns up before stuff from the East Coast ordered at the same time, my record for Aust post is over 6 weeks from Sydney to Perth ???, from US usually within a week or 10 days its on the doorstep and most have tracking of the item as well. Many private sellers will not post overseaes. Ebay takes something like 14% out of the postage costs AS WELL as the other charges. Unfortunately this will delete the profit margin for a high volume low cost seller on the more expensive postage to Australia, so understandably they don't want to sell to you. Its not that they don't want to sell stuff, but ebay are greedy, check out Ebay corporations huge profits, $ with many zero's. I try to buy local but when it is 3 times the price I go elsewhere. The local HD dealers may not have a choice, the high price may be fixed for them by HD.

Wrote too much again, hope this helps, back to work.
