    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has used or considered one of these?  It seems a better (and cheaper) alternative to the SE for stage 1 as it has an billet Aluminium backing plate as well as a K&N filter standard. I have read about the issues with the SE composite backing plate warping.

Looks like a quality intake. They make some nice custom intake covers too. Still has internally vented breathers though...

I've been looking at them too.

What's the problem, if any, with internal breathers??

Some intakes allow for external breathers. Most of the popular intakes are internally vented, it's an emissions thing. Otherwise you could mod an internal setup to breathe externally.

with the crank case breathers hooked up to go into the aircleaner, when your reving motor a bit higher & the oil pump can't scavenge oil out motor back to oil tank fast enough & your pistons going up and down fast, they will spray a fine spray of oil out those breathers & into the air cleaner. the motor sucking hard will draw that oil into the chamber leave deposits when it burns, it also lowers octane. when enough builds up causes other probs , not to mention would eventually efect how well heads flow. i just vent them down or into a catch can.

depends how motor set up as to how much oil they throw out at high rev's, i knew a guy that worked with a roaring sporty race team, he always was rebuilding sporty motors. used to run big piston to bore clearances like 8thou, as they would have them at 8,000 rev or close to that WOT speeds over 220kph, new rings every race meet new pistons every second race meet, & because they ran loose piston to bore clearance ( make good HP like that ) they wet sumped bad. what he did was put a big catch can under frame in middle of bike, told me after one race all oil had gone from oil tank to catch can. but not that dramatic with these new street sportys, unless you crack a piston or break a ring. my twin cam 95inch has good oil scavenging think new oil pumps better or might be the shorter stroke but i rev it to 7,200 when i race it.

another thing that can STOP carbon build up in heads help keep them working like new is useing BP 98 Ultimate keeps them clean!

    Thanks guys!!

Since posting my question, as well as the one above, I have read a lot of other posts about the negatives/problems with feeding crankcase air/oil back into the combustion chambers (ie., internal air breathers), which the stock, SE and this A/C all have.

As a result I am now seriously looking at a similar NRHS product which uses a separate external breather kit, like that offered by NRHS.

Are you lookin at using your stock ham can cover or goin the naked element look?

Hammer Performance sell the same design intake & also do custom covers by request http://hammerperf.com/xlaircleaners.shtml

    Always good to have options...

Slap, probably keep the ham can cover as it has a special 110th Anniversary commemorative cover plate which I would like to keep.  Need to check on the impact on the 2 yr warranty as well.  I'll certainly check out the Hammer product though,
