maybe its telling you to let it warm up properly, or may need to be re-jetted.

Mate I do let it warm up, weather I leave it warm up for 2min or 10min it's still does the same thing

    Hmm, I'm the opposite.
Mine hates the choke and sitting after start up.
I start mine up with no choke, count to 15 then go.

My choke won't stay out so I use the throttle lock thingy but I generally have the same issue as your Aaron. I put it down to cams etc and haven't thought about it too much.

    Several things come to mind.

Air leak on the inlet side, too heavy engine oil, dirty throttle body, spark plugs fouling, wrong spark plugs (to cold) etc etc.

The above are by no means a full list but are easy to sort but if your happy that they are okay I would recommend you do a compression test at the very least this would rule out worn top end.

Without being able to see the condition of the bike it's difficult to diagnosis what is going on but there are some very clever guy's on here who with as much info as you can give will help you out.

The bike is under warranty and is in the shop at southport Harley Davidson on the Gold Coast and they say that there is nothing wrong with the bike , but I no and everyone else noes there is , so there trying ta find the problem but don't no what it is, they re jetted it , cleaned carbi, cleaned all fuel tank and lines , and my bike still has the problem and it still back fires out of the carbi every now and then, but they have no idea what it is ...

I've been thinking about this for a little while very simplistically, and have wondered if it could have something to do with the ignition system breaking down, and not providing enough spark when required.

Just my thoughts, I'm no mechanic, but am mechanically minded.  Just getting back to basics where for a motor to be able to run, it needs three important things, Fuel, Air, & Spark.  Check your ignition system, plugs, and possibly your leads too.  You may have a cracked lead, wrong plugs, or faulty ignition system.

Good luck, and hope you locate the problem soon.

I have a 2004 carb nightrain, I also start the bike with the fuel enricher, then push it all the way in and manual keep the revs up, the plugs foul otherwise.
My enricher knob used to slide in aswell until I found the thread nut that hold it to the frame was lose, tighten it up and it stayed on.
My bike also gets a miss as I ride at any speed ocationally.
    Your jets clean?
Does it feel like its starving for fuel or spark, does it smell of petrol
Is it only from cold or each time you start it

The bike only does it from cold , once bike is been riding for 5 min it's perfect , if it was spark or ignition Wouldent it do it the hole time just not when cold ? I can be full throttle after letting it warm and the bike wille just be slow as shit , and then boom the duckin thing rides like a dream

maybe the wrong choice of cams have been stuck in and made the bike a pig. a lot of people think the bigger the better but without other mods like head work etc you can kill the engine.
who put the cams in? is the cam timing correct what cams are they what other work has the bike had done??? all this info will help people help you.

The problem is only when it's cold not the hole time , I brought the bike as is all I no is that it has a macuni carberator and after market cams, the cam were some from the previous owner at one of his mates houses not done at a shop , sorry I don't have a lot more info on the bike, but yer once again if the bike only does it when it's cold why when it gets warmed up does it go good ?

it has to be a lose something, when it heats and expands, close's up.

I hear a bit around this flapper thing in the exhaust, could that be closing and sticking shut when it goes cold, when the pipes expand with heat, it releases?

I really don't have a clue, but am only thinking out loud, but it may give some of the mechanical people in here another train of thought

been a long time since I had anything to do with carbies but a simple place to start is check the float level.
no need to pull the bowl if it has a bottom out over flow line. Change the line to clear hose and point it up to above the float level. it will find it's own level. inside = outside so it will be easy to see if it is to high and causing minor flooding.

Would it fix the problem if I changed the hole carbi to a new one? Do ya think that that's the problem
