    hi all

Im looking at changing the final drive ratio on my 09 road king classic. At the moment at 100klm/per It is only sitting on 2200 in 6th gear witch means I ride everywhere in 5th .

The plan is to work out the gearing to give me 105 in 6th at about 2500/2750  but Im not shore how to achieve this .It has been surgested that dropping yhe front sprocket by one tooth would do the job . Has any one gone down this road.

Did a similar thing on my Vrod. You will need a new front sprocket and also new drive belt and unfortunately u will need to take off the swing arm to change the belts. It worked on the Vrod which had quite a high 1st gear.

check the space for adjustment on the axle. If your close to the limit you may need to change the belt.  For those a little adventurous it is possible to get a little more adjustment if you want.
Some use the woods 30t front pulley but HD have one that is about $100. 83595-11 I think.
Rear is easier but not easy to find a larger pulley

Thanks guys  The local steeler told me that HD dont have anything to do this . Ive been on to Baker Drivetrain and they have a good range but not a lot of info on how much to change IE 1,2,or3 teeth.

    Hi Doc-
Changed my front sprocket on my 07 softail 96ci from 32-31-I think it was a Baker -got it from Rollies-Use a standard belt-Don't have a tacho but I can use 6 th at the speed limit ie 100-110km.Runs well -Its a bit of work but I think worth it.
Depending if your back wheel has integral IDS or bolt on U may get away with a rear wheel change & gearing 66 -68.
    I have a couple late 68 t wheels complete if u r interested?
Assuming u have clearance the rear wheel is simpler-aside from possibly some spacers its remove & replace.
    Hope this helps

Well a bit more info on this topic.
I'm currently in the States and at Sturgis I had Baker Drive Train fit a 30 tooth front sprocket to my new FLHTC and man has it made it a different bike. Heaps more get up and go and 3000 rpm is now at 110 KPH which is right in the sweet spot .
I thought I would loose some top end speed but it has had the opposite effect and the bike now pulls the top end a lot easier than it did before. I have done just over 1000 miles since it was done and there seams to be little or no change in fuel consumption so a win win all around.
Cost for the change out with new drive belt and labor was $650 so I think it is probably the best mod that you can do to a Touring bike for Aussie conditions.
