Anyone know what a reasonable time is for changing the fork oil on a 2011 FXDC?? Stealer wants $300 to do it - sounds steep. Wish the MoCo had not deleted the drain plugs....

    thnx

so their going to remove everything to tip out the oil. A few hours work to pull it all to bits and put back together 2-3 I suspect, $300 sounds a lot if you think of it as just a for fork oil change, but it is a bit of work to do it.

God I hope that you at least get a jar of Vaseline with that $300

Anywhere between $120 and $150 an hr plus oil...2 or 3 hrs work...Sounds reasonable to me,but then again...I do my own...

Hmm... On a previous ride, they would just suck the oil out. No need to take the forks off!!

Yep. If you pull the wheel off your bike and strip the forks down, just to replace the oil, there is something wrong with you.

CD - Ask the dealer how they will do it?  If they say the will pull the forks off, ask them why they can't suck it out?

I would love to hear the response.

You would think it would take an hour or so.
On my bike, (84 EVO telescopic) you just take the plugs out, push down on the steering, out it comes, put plugs back in. Then take the Caps off the top, put the new oil in, caps back on and its done.

you have too turn the fork upside down with the spring cap off & pump the fork damper in & out too get all the oil out ,  i don't think you can suck it out as you would not get the tube pass the damper valve  @ the bottom of the spring  & only  get the top half of the oil level

So are you saying you can't go right down the middle of the spring to the bottom of the fork??

thats just & adjuster oil level kit  it won't work for taking out the oil,    you have no short cut's you have too do it the right way  is the best   it doe's take that long  too take the forks out of the bike  no problem in having a crack @ it  it's straight foward  off & on type work,

Since 2006 ( maybe earlier !) the Dynas have had no fork oil drain screw. Softies and others still do to this day

Also the fork top nuts are designed to pre-load the fork springs , like most older japper bikes.

If you're not careful taking them off they'll fuck you in the chin, no joke !!

And yes the forks have to be upside down and " open" to cycle all the old oil out.

That and you have to " dipstick " the oil level on rebuild.

When I did my 2006 Dyna 4 years ago or so I just found on the net an actual Ml measurement and went with that before I put the nuts back on. All of this was done off the bike and was indeed a PITA for sure !

Unless you have a rattle gun , then be sure to loosen the fork top nut while the forks are still clamped in the triple trees.

    Softies are sooo much easier....
