Not so quiet baffles.

I put quiet baffles in my V&H bigshots from day one and I kept meaning to put in the original ones because they were too quiet.

Today I put in the originals and they are too loud.  I don't really care, but I noticed a neighbour up the road giving me the death stare and when I went passed a cop car I noticed the guys head nearly snap off as I went by.  He actually went to do a U-turn, but the traffic was too busy and I went "casually" down some backstreets :P  As I got home another fucking neighbour is standing there, hands on hips and looking pissed.

I don't like my neighbours anyway (most of em), but I don't go poking them with a stick if I can help it...I'm more likely to beat them over the head with one on a moonless night.  They all know I have Harleys, but for some reason this sound is more annoying?  I'm not even sure I like it myself.

This is all within 5 minutes of riding with the original baffles.

So, anyone know if there's a happy medium?  I was thinking quiet baffles without the fibreglass wrapping?

I've got V & H straight shots on my fatbob.  I had the quiet baffles in from the start.  Had the same problem, neighbours giving me stinkeye everytime I went past.  I bought a set of the SMARTPARTZ HARDCORE BAFFLES, and fitted them with the recommended standard baffle.

It now sounds a little "fluffy" at idle, but the good thing is that if you take it easy, they are a fair bit quiter then the V & H quiet baffles.  Give it a handful and its louder than its ever been.  I've found that if I just cruise home down the street, the wife can barely hear it, give it some and she can hear it several blocks away.

I think for about 100 buck delivered, its worth a try.  No mods except for one small hole in the standard baffle.  If you read the website, it sounds like shit, but I've found them pretty good.

    Cheers

Kick arse help guys, ty. I've stuck in the quiet baffles with no fibreglass this morning. I'll wait to start it at a more reasonable time :) If this doesn't work I'll check out the smartpantz option after I Youtube the sound.
The originals just don't have a nice note imo, though I know a lot of people love them.

Okay, quiet baffles without the packing seems to be an okay result for me. Quiet-ish when I'm around people (I started it right next to people getting married, getting there photos done and no one jumped out of their skin, one or two even smiled) but it cracks to life when you wind on the throttle. Best of all I don't find the note annoying. Still turns heads, just doesn't turn smiles into sneers.

After a couple of days with the quiet baffles, even without the wrap, I couldn't fucking stand the quiet. I was going to put the original baffles back in (too annoying) but thought I'd try cutting the cap off the quiet ones to see what they sound like. It just 3 small welds which I used a dremel to cut through, though you could easily use a file.
The sound is 1000 times better imo - deeper and without the crackle.

I've heard of people drilling holes through the end caps and saying it sounds like shit, so I thought I'd stick this here for future searchers. Best of all, if you don't like the sound its just 3 small welds to put the caps back on.

Glad you found a happy medium Bonkerz, mine with standard baffles were driving me mental too....and the neighbors when i took off at 6am hahaha.....
Just my 50 cents, for those that are having the same problem... As above I tried the smartpartz baffles too and am happy with the result, still loud when you open up the throttle, but controllable when needed to pass cops etc

I ened up with the qiuet baffles, the end cap cut off so they go staright through, with only HALF the baffle wrapped. It's barks when I open the throttle, but I'd still like a little more ...maybe I'll try 1/4 wrap next time :P Sooner or later I'm going to get some better wrap and try putting it on the original baffles and see what that sounds like.

Christoff, search Utube for smart partz baffles mate, there's a few vids on there comparing the before and after when putting them in. I'm happy with mine and they give a deeper note, and def quiten it a bit.. Not everyone's proverbial cup of tea tho...
