Street Bob Slim?

     Hi all,

Ive been enjoying the Forty Eight for 18 months or so and as predicted by so many, I'm ready to upgrade to a big twin.

I very nearly pulled the trigger on a brand new Softail Slim yesterday, but decided to sleep on it to be sure. Since then I have found a used Street Bob in pretty much stock trim and low kms for $10k less, and I got to thinking... What could I do with the $10k difference?

Buy an engagement ring and 1/2 a wedding? Nah fuck that... She'll wait for me :-)

What about make a Street Bob Slim?

    A what you say?

How much would it cost to put a bobbed fender, Hollywood bars, and floorboards on a 2006 Street Bob? Would it look as cool as the FLS? What about the forks that the Slim has... Can you put the thick touring style forks (say from the Switchback) on a Street Bob, or am I stuck with the thin forks?

Is this idea a pipe dream that would cost more than its worth, or would it actually work and give me a really unique and cool bike?

I'd much rather a 20k bob with 10k into it than a 30k stock softail

Well I split the difference and bought a new Street Bob instead of the used one. Still $5k cheaper than the Slim, plus it has the advantages of handling like a Dyna, and I love the unbalanced idle. As soon as someone hands me $15.5k for my 48 (a fukken bargain!) I'll start ordering the parts and will put up plenty of pics.

Picked up the bike and got her home. Stood in the driveway staring at it like spaz for about 2 hours!

Since then I've already picked up a set of chrome V&H slip ons. They look the part and sounds sweet, provided that bloody exhaust valve is held open. I'll have to look into locking it open. Has anyone heard of any down side to doing that?

Next step will be the floorboards which are on order. I've noticed that the stock exhaust shields have an indentation in them where the right side mid control peg is. Once the floorboards are on I think this will be visible. What do folks with boards or forward controlls normally do with this? Can you get a shield without the dent or is it not really that noticeable?

You can deactivate the flapper valve using the screamin eagle tuner

Hey folks. Sorry for the delay getting an update on here. Here is the finished product. I think it is pretty slick.

It's also now for sale, thanks to an exxy separation. At $19k it is a bargain.

Boards are not from a slim, the kit is straight out of the GMA big book, with optional half moon pans. Couple hundred plus fitting which was fucking heaps because the primary has to come off to disconnect the mid controls.

Cornering is fine. The Dynas have heaps
More ground clearance than the Softails so I've barely scraped them. I test rode a slim and ground it every turn.

Floor boards on a S Bob I'm like WTF. I also love the look of the slim, now that I've seen it, WOW I like it. Good job. Just as good as the Slim. :)

It's the big book of parts and accessories by Harley. Your local dealer will have one to review
