    Pete here,

HELP NEEDED_recently bought a new 2011/2012 1200 sporty custom, I'm finding the suspension bottoming out a lot, especially when i have a pillion(my wife) on the back(total weight around 150kg (i'm the big bastard not her).

Can the suspension be upgraded, if so has anyone done it and what did it cost. I know some will say get a bigger bike-WON'T HAPPEN_ it took 23 years to get permision from my wife for this one-she aint going to let me get a bigger bike.

I really enjoy taking my wife out on rides but SAFETY and COMFORT are really important so I need to find a solution.

Any input would be really really appreciated.

    Regards

    Pete(hotcurrie2)

    Hi mate,

I have no idea of what prices are applicable - I need guidance and advice. I don't want to sacrifice safety for cost (it's my wife on the back)

There are plenty of options out there including off the shelf & shocks made to suit yours & pillions weight.

I have been dealing with both http://www.suspensionshop.org/  (Adelaide) and http://motorcyclemetal.com/  (USA) who can make a solution to suit you.

Motorcycle metal is a member here (can't remember his username). Send him an email with your bike details, weight of rider & what you are sort of riding you do. He has very comparable prices. Same deal with the Suspension shop.

    Rollies Speed Shop as well.

Of course as with most things the prices from the US are pretty good.

I ended going through JC Motors http://www.jcmotors.com/c-1270-shocks.aspx?SectionFilterID=7  was a hard decision between JC Motors & Motor Cycle Metal.

Shocks have been covered a million times on the Sportster page,,,, Ikon is the best for your needs, They are sold and made by Proven Products in Albury (02) 6040 9955. Geoff will custom build the Shocks for you, I think they are around the $500 mark but worth every cent

Plus get a sissy bar! My missus loves the thoght that she will not tip off the back which makes her a way more relaxed passenger.
