I bought a new fatbob in August last year after lots of sports bikes. I thought it was time to let go of the TLR1000 after 14 years and 150000km. I can always fang a mates GSXR if I get the urge. There are lots of reasons for my quantum shift in riding style including potholes, cameras and ergos. I looked long and hard when in the market and looked at everything from R1's, streefighters and RSV4's to boulevards and even a thruxton. Harley Davidson of Blacktown was just up the road and I saw a 2nd hand M109R out the front so dropped in. Well there she was, a denim 2012 fatbob sitting proud and when I sat on it it just felt right. They let me ride both the fatbob and the boulevard and there was no turning back, had to have the harley right or wrong.
Its got more clearance and is way more fun in the corners than I expected. I've ridden to the Motogp with a mate and had a ball and he really appreciated getting off the GSXR and onto bob, especially with all the speed traps and cops.
Anyhow, thats my story.
Cheers
welcome
Thanks for the welcome everyone. Will try and contribute to this site when I can.
Did the same as you one month earlier from the same dealership, I am also a change over from a sports bike and also went down to the Island, pitty we did bump into each other.
so there you go, very similar stories and loving the Fatbob also (more now since I dropped a set of Ricors into the fron forks)
nice intro mate, and good one
Hey Donster, I think there's a new trend forming. Loved the price drop from the 2011 model. I'm interested to hear about. your suspension mods, the springs on these are fairly ordinary
Initially I doubted my decision about my bike change due to the poor feel from the front end, the Fat Bob just did not like anything other than an excellent smooth road. To start I thought I need to give it time as it might have been me but it wasnt me.
Since fitting Ricor Intiminators into the front forks with some 10W Motul fork oil (same volumes as what came out), everything else still standard - The bike now feels very nice, I can ride as I want to ride and not be looking for every little road imperfection. Currently run with rear shocks on setting 3.
Worth every cent and you buy on line from Richor - love the ride now.
Don
Welcome! Im like you, never considered myself as a Harley rider, but after a month on a new sportster, my other bikes arent even getting a look in anymore!
Thanks for the tip, may be an option. I'm changing the standard tyres first to see if that makes a difference. I also run the rear on 3. Would be nice to have some damper adjustment.
Front tyre was one of my thoughts initially also, but after fitting the valves into the folks the front tyre is now fine in my opinion - sure there might be better tyres out there, but now I'm going to run the rubber off mine first.
Also the cheaper fix is the valves, and after my experience I think that should be the first to try. It will settle everything down to the point (a balance) where you can make better judgment on other things. I also was thinking of changing the rear shocks, but now I'm OK with them also, or maybe I just got more used to them? Anyway I reckon I can get some value out of current tyres and rear shocks now which is good.
Just love riding the Fat Bob and wish this hot weather would piss off
good luck with your deliberating, cheers Don
