Hoping to get some advice, thoughts and general help as the bike has been back to the stealer twice and is still not fixed!

Bike: 2012 Fat Bob

Mods: Vance & Hines 2 into 2, SE Heavy Breather and SE Tuner

Fuel: 95 premium (got told to change from 98 as this would fix the problem)

Km: 2500

 Problem:

- Bike is randomly surging the throttle for a second or so and cutting out "scary as hell when this happens especially around corners"

- Does it without notice, intermittently, under different conditions and not every time I ride it

- Sometimes backfires and cuts out after surging

- I can flick the ignition off hit the start button and off she goes again no problem

Stealer has said there are no fault codes recored and basicaly said there is nothing they can do!

They sure did! All before I rode it out the door for the first time!

Nothing they can do??? WTF. The bike is under warranty.

Give it back a and tell them to call you when it's fixed. And make sure you call HD head office to let them know when and where you are taking it.

Could be that the dealer installed the wrong file to the SEPST. Don"t ask how I know this and yes it is extremely dangerous. Same symptoms, bike otherwise rode fine.

 

I just don't understand why a dealer would want a bike going out the door that is running like shit! Surely the Workshop manager has more pride in his work than that!! Farout!!

The first question I would ask of him is this.... "If this was your bike, would you be happy??" Not the apprentice, but the service manager. Then... when he sticks to "there is nothing else I can do" you say... "That's ok. I might call HD head office and see if they have heard of anything similar" You might get a different approach after that. Don't ask me how I know. LOL!!

 Thanks all for the advise! This is my first HD and it cost me a shit load! It is starting to take the shine off it when it has me on edge everytime I take it out waiting for it surge around corners. It then does not do it when the stealer has it and makes me sound like I'm full of shit. 

Yes mate but it wasn't the dealer to blame, just me. Flashed the wrong tune file to the bike to do a smart tune session. Bike started and seemed to run ok. Went to cross a T junction and bike cut out (nearly killed me).
Got safely back home and discovered my mistake.
Get the software for your tuner ($50) from the dealer and download whatever is on the bike and make sure it is correct for your bike. Quite a few differences in tunes from say an 10 model and a 12 model. I am assuming you have the SEPST tuner.

If you are in the position where you can
Take it back tell them it's not safe or in your opinion road worthy and you want it fixed urgently as it is your main form of transport and you have had it back several times.
You expect them to call you with in 2 days advising it is now fixed and ready to collect. leave the keys on the counter and walk out and get a ride home. Do not enter into drawn out discussions with sales people.
When they start contacting you to say it's ok nothing wrong with it just say ok I will call HD Australia and advise them I have returned the bike and refuse to take it back until it is safe to ride. If necessary do exactly that and call HD, I bet it will get resolved.
Do not get argumentative with any of them but be firm about your intentions

Can this fall under the lemon laws shit? He's been back several times and the dealer can't find a problem...
