I know, that probably makes no sense! I tried to ring the workshop...they're already gone!
I just had some new tyres put on. 2012 883. The bike seems to run fine, but after I start the engine up, the engine light comes on for a few seconds, then disappears (I'm not talking about the fuel pump light..I mean after the engine is started). Then, after I ride it for a few, both the engine light and the batter light come on.
I checked it up and down. There are no loose plugs at all.
Anyone have any ideas?
ConR, do you have a sert?
also maybe this will help

Guys, I had a similar problem, although not directly related to the tyres.
I found the check engine light and battery light coming on at intermittent stages. I could not work it out. Sometimes it would show just after starting, other times it would be hot/cold air temps, high revving, low revving etc etc. I ride the bike everyday; it's a 2012 883 Iron, i've had it since new.
Turns out there are faulty voltage regulators on some models. HD have an 'unofficial' recall on them. My dealer knew what was wrong when I queried the fault after explaining it is ridden daily and not left on a trickle charger to be ridden on weekends only, thus inferrring low battery voltage from lack of use/charging.
The other interesting telltale sign the voltage regulator was stuffed was greasy residue being splashed over the lower part of the engine frame and around the voltage regulator. It was failing hence the erratic charging and fault lights.
I took it into the dealer they replaced it with another (of the same type) but explained that they are sourcing new and better regulators but there is a shortage. This was in December, I had a phone call last week to say the new ones are in and I should bring my bike in for the swap.
If you have a late model bike i'd suggest checking for the deposits and get also get the bike to the dealer. They should be able to look at the part and determine if it's one of the faulty units.
After having said all of this, you may be right and the tyre changer just left the ignition on draining the battery....
Cheers guys!!
IE
Im havn the same problem ,am dreading having to deal with PS to get this fixed .
cheers
Hey ConR,
your error code shows low battery voltage, P0562, (according to the HD diagnostic error codes), you note low volt read out too. So the two are connected. It could well be your regulator is rooted. Contact HD for a replacement IMHO.....
BTW how's the pipe going? I'm still tryining to work out how to fit a larger A/C under the front header. It might not be as bad as I thought initially.
Cheers
So, did a couple things. 1. Went to my friends, measured the voltage at the battery. 12.5V. Not that bad to be honest. Shouldn't have triggered the low voltage error. 2. Fired it up, gave it some throttle to about 2000RPM. Watched the voltage go up to around 13.8. Then it shot itself all of a sudden, dropped to 12.3, and never went back up, even when giving it throttle. Stayed at 12.3. The battery light came back on. Didn't seem that the alternator was doing anything. Bike was running purely off the battery at that stage. 3. Charged it back up to 12.5V with my friends heavy duty 12V charger. Fired it up, gave it to 2500RPM. Voltage shot to 14.2. Stayed there. Never dropped. Figured it was all good. 4. Rode back home. 5 minutes in, battery light back on again. WTF?!?!?!
