     Hi Guys

I am new to the Harley world and this forum but loving it so far, I have just bought myself a 2008 fat bob with alot of bells and whistles. It has an oil cooler fitted to it a small one at the from and one at the the rear underneath, does it really need an oil cooler as it no standard and doesnt look the best. I am wanting to remove it but would like other peoples option before I do?

    Cheers

    Galvo

Hi, I would leave it on becasue the 96 TC run hotter and even if you have Thundermax or SERT ETC they all runb hot. Every bit bit helps to TC cool. On my 08 Fatbob I have HD oil cooler and recently Jims Force Fan.
    My 2cents worth!!

I would keep the oil cooler for now, but watch the temperature. Ideal oil temp is 180-210F If your oil temp is getting up around 230 or so, definitely keep the cooler. Also, synthetic oil may help bring the temp down. I was riding my '02 Low Rider two days ago and after a 25 mile ride, cruising at 50-55 mph, I shot the oil temp with an infra red heat gun and found it to be 170 degrees. I was surprised that it was so low. Outside air temp was 64F at the time. Hot summer will be another matter, of course.

I have only had this Low Rider since December 7. Sold my '07 Sportster 883L and love this new bike, even if it is 10 years old. It look sand runs like brand new. Love the comfort.

keep it, there are major reasons for the addition of an oil cooler, to much heat destroys oil, ya might as well have vegemite in there it might have better lubrication properties than cooked engine oil
and while on the subject of oil, change it regularly and no you don't have to use "harley" oil, there are better oils out there
check with your oil expert at a specialty store, not repco or bunnings
