Coming home this arvo, not going fast probly under 60kph, car pulls out from intersection! I see the other car behind it, it waits I carry on & fuck me it pulls out. Big fishtail, front brake kicks in & I have room to go around the back of it. Just about gave me a heart attack!!! I calmed down & went up the road to where the car was stopped at the intersection at the other end of the street. I had calmed down enough to just ask the girl (young girl on P's) if she saw me (in a calm manner). She said that with the other cars around she did not see me. There was not point in me ripping her head off so just asked her to look right, look left, look right again and pay attention.

We are at the mercy of the fucking car!!!!!!

There was a show on telly the other night regarding human behavour...It was saying that car drivers at intersections are looking for cars and basically there minds blank everything else out such as motorcycles...Always be aware and alert....

Glad to hear that you are ok and able to avoid a collision. I bet you needed to have a stiff drink or 2 when you got home.

I was with a group of 8 bikes and as we came up to a cross roads the small truck in front puts on his left indicator and moves over, then as we start to pass his flips on the right indicator and barrels through us. The four front bikes (me included) powered past, but the last four bounced there bikes over the concrete medium strip to avoid being squashed. Fucked if I know how no one was killed or at least had an off.
The dickhead was going to Bunnings, but when we turned around (and we got the thumbs up from the friendlies) he suddenly must have realised he left the oven on at home, because he seemed in an awful rush to get away. We happened to be going the same way and, while maintaining the speed limit, rode up next to him to ask how his day was going, but he was such a careful driver he wouldn't look at us no matter how much we tried to say hello.

Yeah well saved , i`m always cautious of young women drivers , they always seem to be doing something other than concentrating on what they are meant to be doing , no offence to anyone , there are exeptions as always but man they can be deadly and half the time i don`t think they even realise , the roads and the people on them seem to be getting worse as well , all too wrapped up in themselves and what they are doing to give a fuck about anybody else , especially bikes , 8 times outa 10 they are shocked and apologetic but almost ablivious to the fact that they coulda just ruinned a rider and their families day and possible life through shear lack of thought !

100% expect the unexpected these days hey , although sometimes even then , there is fuckall ya can do to avoid an off caused by someone elses actions , practice emergency stopping , take off`s and evasive manouvors when no one is about or whenever ya can i reckon .

Totally agree, am I being an old fart or do I seem to see alot of "P" platers males being dickheads (nothings changed from my days) but "P" plater females being twatheads. I did not see the face/head as the action was happening as I was too busy braking, controlling my skid & looking for an exit route. But she could have been on the phone, it was a pretty quiet road, no traffic behind me & of course my light was on, I cannot see why she did not see me. Headlight coming at her & lots of noise from my pipes (been thinking of making them quieter). I've got a big scrubbed patch on my back tire.

There is a chance that the next biggest cause of accidents on our roads (& prolly killer of two wheeled pilots) at the moment is mobile phone use, but of course that will be hard to get stats on. Whose going to say yeah I was on the phone, that's why I did'nt see ya!!

yea it happens, a mate and I were just leaving Portland a few mths ago early in the morning and going around a sweeping bend with a crossroad onto it and a mum with a pack of kids looking to goto school pulled out around in front of us, we were going 80 clicks...we both jammed our brakes on, the mum stopped mid road when she eventually saw us...i went behind the car and my mate went in front of it....
hairy shit man I feel your concern... just imagine all drivers are completely fucked in the head when you are riding and act accordingly ??

Hey Dermie you did well to keep your cool mate

I finally got my Sporty back they took 3 months to repair, but its now home.

first thing I went to do was carve up the bitches driveway and front garden on it.

I guess I'm not as tolerant as you

    well done for being calm.

Well done for avoiding it.  You've just got to expect cars to do that - dumb or ignorant or genuine mistake.......result is the same.  I had one yesterday, not as close as yours, I was going straight and a car pulled up to side road to go straight over, I was doing about 50k's and watching him and expecting he'd come straight across in front of me and guess what  he did.  The new ABS is very good, used it twice now.  Eventually got round to blowing the horn (bit late as I was working on not hitting him first) and as he drove off he at least had the sense to acknowledge he'd f'd up.  Just part of the deal.  Now.......if I had louder than stock pipes on the bike he'd have probably heard me and be looking for me......there's an idea

Put simply, non bike riders in tin tops will never be aware, ever, until they have a near miss. We have to have esp every time we ride and avoid the potentials all the time. The more and the longer you ride, the more this becomes apparent. Pipes or not, hi vis or not, we are moving targets to them and most are that blasé, they just don't give a fuck!
Glad it turned out well for you Dermie, Maybe we should start a separate thread on near misses that members have and see how quickly it builds up.

Well done for avoiding the P plater Dermie...glad u r ok!
I ride around Sydney mostly & you have to have your wits about you. You can't trust any car drivers these days! I recently did another bike course & the instructor emphasized several times during the course to ride 'defensively' & do not take risks while riding. He said what is the point of being in the 'right' in a collision & having 2 broken legs & neck. Someone on this forum said something along the lines of.."don't let any car drivers near you when riding"...I know it's difficult sometimes & we let them in our space. I suppose always being vigilant on the rode & don't take risks even if u have to slow right down to make sure you are seen/heard at intersections. Safe riding to everyone here :-)

+1, I would have smashed her drivers window with my helmet. It doesn't take me much to get fired up, especially after a reaction like that.
