I came into a c grind cam for small change and I am realising its at the extreme of bolt in cams. Is it too risky to use in a 80 motor with good compression.?
i think a C Grind Andrews cam is for a Shovelhead from what i can remmember only because i have fitted a few in some Shovelhead Stroker's A while ago
It is listed as a cam for early mid evo motors..they were a big deal for shovels as well. I'm thinking maybe best to keep until I rebuild and fit my 88 s&s sidewinder kit I got a few years ago. Just need a cam till then that bolts in and gives the old girl some life..I have cScreamin eagle ignition module so she can rev as its a 8k module.
was hoping to give the cam a go but seems too much for my stocker for sure even though is listed as bolt in.
Only going off previous owners info, was installed in a 90 model evo and was listed to suit 90 and previous so I am confused like always. Will see when it arrives.
thanks guys, if I don't ask I don't know.
the cam will be stamped on it's arse what grind & brand name it is , but you can not use a shovel cam in & evo 84up big twin + there is 2 type's of shovel cam 's early too 1977, then from 1977 too 83 are different again
The 77 up cam has a groove cut in the face of the gear and the matching pinion only has gears on 2/3rds of its length, the gear profile is different to the early cam gears,if you mix and match early and late you will seriously f**k your bottom end................... if you have an evo this is not a cam for you, do not believe what the seller is telling you, c grind are for shovel, yes it will fit, but it was not designed for an evo.
Thanks guys, anyone building a huge shovel contact me . As I said before if I don't ask I don't know.

I heard he`s doing a 142" shovel motor, if you have the coin someone has the motor you want, good luck.
On the subject, best cam for an 89 evo? Bolt in preferred for now. You guys must have used most cams in the book..so what's the best bang for my buck..also as always..if you have one you can spare let me know..always looking to save where I can.
EVBT 84-99 Crane 310-2 fireball . you won't look back you can have them cheaper by ordering less gear thats what i do & use to old cam gear keep's the gears back lash as per std , you have too fit the cam gear proper measure inter fit & timing etc
I ran an EV35 for 15 years in my old 86 FXR and loved it. Totally bolt in and a great general purpose cam. Tried an S&S 520 which was also nice, but now running an EV31, however it's a specialist setup. The EV13 or EV27 is a 'bagger' cam for the big heavy bikes, not sure which though so u need to research that one.
You can borrow my old EV35 or the S&S f you want to try them out.
Will collect required bits needed to change cam and get back to you. The s&s looks like a nice fit for my unit.
My c grind arrived. It's a California spec HD pollution grind cam going off what I found on the net. My mistake and sellers. Hope can return and put towards my dream cam.
it would make a good paper weight thats about all
Waiting on gaskets and money for pushrods...you learn patients when dealing with public health system. Won't be long.
You might want to replace the cam bearing, check to see if its an INA or a torrington, the INA had a habit of failing badly and destroying bottom ends, the INA has spacers between the rollers and the torrington only has rollers, you`ll need a puller and installation tool for this, about $150 on ebay, and some shims to set cam endfloat, check your lifter bearings as well they don`t last for ever. And replace the cam cover oil seal.
if you use the right type of cam choice you will not have too change the pushrods & save the bucks , stock pushrods are c/moly & the same dia & wall thickness as aftermarket one's . adjustable's are the lazy way +$, adjustable's are also heavier than stock
