I just serviced the softy and when I replaced the engine oil it only took about 5 ounces short of 3 quarts. QUESTION ONE : Is that about normal without purgeing all the oil from the lines ?? I measured what came out of the Tranny and replaced it (about 23 ounces) but when I try to read the frigging dipstick, it's different every time. If I rest it on the thread (in the casing) while trying to line the dipstick up at the same angle as the thread, it reads "low" but, if I rest it on the thread and ignore the angle, it reads "full" ?? QUESTION TWO : Does anybody take any notice of the bloody thing.
Thanks for the in depth answer Scotty.
I did get the bike to about 190deg, normal is about 200-210 this time of year, so I thought I shoulda got a bit more engine oil out ?? The workshop manual says no more than 24 ounces in the tranny so knowing I put in at least 23 it annoys me that the dipstick is reading on the add line. Anyway, Thanks.
I can sleep easy now.
