Drive Belt

          G ot  home from a weekend away     today and thought   best get the bike out           put the gear on started bike             of i go    nope nothing     The bloody drive belt snapped   and i didnt move  glad i made it home last time      all stked up and  no where to go 

     

    What sort of  ks   are you getting out of belts   ????          and willl i need a second morgage and to bend over and take it up the arse to buy a new one

    That would shit ya. I think a drive belt is about $250-$300?

    Out of interest how many kms she done?

    I changed mine at 30 just to be safe, I had one snaped on another bike I owned at 45,

    All comes down to how you ride and the road conditions i guess. But being a sporty they are easy enough to change so why not hey. Do ya weekly checks and you'll see when its turning to shit.

    I've done 70,000 k and are on my 4th belt.1st one picked up a stone,2nd one 40,000 and let go,3rd one my fault for not re-adjusting after lowering bike & doing jumps,

    A mate that just got 170kms out of a belt... Yes 170kms...
    Softail with a s&s 126 stroker in it... The stealer is sluggin him 800 odd to do the belt each time so after the 3rd belt goes he's goin chain.

    if you are rough on your bike and your making good power, set the belt tight, as soon as it jumps a tooth it rips the teeth off!

    Just letting everybody know i  went to the local Gates agen in town  and he sent belt away for me $120..00       and 2 days   all fixed sorry stealers your not getting $287.00    of me

    stealer quoted 2 hours labor to fit belt i fitted in 30 min piss easy job

     Are you saying that the Gates dealer got it reconditioned for you, not sent you a new one????

    NO a new old one snapped, they just needed old belt as sample to make sure it had the same cords in it and the same pitch .The old belt was faded and we could not read no's on it to cross reference so they asked for old belt as a sample

    Mate...my Sporty is approaching 72,000 klms on original belt. Still looks ok, maybe I'm just lucky.I give it heaps...plenty gear changes around the twisties etc, also h'way work. Hmmm, think I'll order another just in case.
