Hey all according to my users manual the Fatboy Lo 2011 should have its front tire PSI at 36 and its rear tire PSI at 42. However the local Harley Mechanic has said that the rear tire pressure of 42 (Cold) is too high and suggests around 40 PSI.
I am not sure which way to jump but wanted other riders opinions anyone know why he would suggest the PSI of 40? why he would not go with a PSI of 42? I have not got a chance to ask him yet as I got the suggestion via one of the junior mechanics as the senior was not in store that day. Usually I have run the PSI 36 front 42 rear but now I am unsure!
Thanks for any help
I ride with 38 front 42 rear on my 2011 fatty with no problems
I talked with the Dunlop Motorcycle guy recently about my 08 Fat Boy stock rear tires (I go through one every 5,000 miles). Contrary to the manual suggested pressure of 38 psi solo and 40 two up, or with a load, he says to pump up to 42. Not that it will improve the mileage, but will improve the handling. The front tire stays at 36 psi.
That's what HE said. It's a rare occurence that I can tell a difference of 4 psi, let alone 2.
Dunlop has a new composite tire out with a hard center for higher mileage, and softer sides for hangin tight on curves. Anybody tried these out?
Cheers
40 front 38 rear on Dunnies...my mechanic puts in.....
40psi rear and im getting around 15,000ks out of a rear tyre
Cheers for the info all, I have tried 36 front 40 rear and 36 front 42 rear and found no major difference in the handling, I am leaning towards keeping the rear at 42 simply as does seem to respond a little better. But that could be in my head I guess.
