It's funny you know. When I ride my Heritage, almost all Harley riders wave, and amost no-one else. When I ride my Kawasaki, Harley riders generally don't wave, most others do. Ride the postie bike, no- one waves. Me, I wave to everybody. One exception to the rule seems to be L platers, god bless em. A real estate agent once told me when I was buying a house, a smile and a wave costs nothing.
I acknowledge by sticking the right leg out. I do not like nodding.
I wave or nod to everyone even if its 10/10ths through a corner. I always have a laugh to myself if others don't . Observiously shit riders who are not game to take a hand off the handle bars. Scary business this riding, no fun at all. Some of the biggest offenders when I am not on the Harley are other Harley riders especially the ones with the new shinny bike and the new Gay Pirate uniform, you know the bandanna, the skull face mask and the shiny new vest and the johnny reb boots, cracks me up .
speedwobbles, there must be alot of shit riders around the bellarine peninsula on harleys, coz not many wave nor nod, but then i`m JUST sportster rider and happily wave to ALL riders, it must hard to be cool and nice too, lol, anyway, their lose. we should all be out enjoying this day...... maybe tomorrow (((-; happy new year (((-:
for the hell of it i sometimes give an approaching rider the middle finger ..... the reaction sometimes is priceless
just went for a quick dry up ride after cleaning ma bike. 3 riders i met, 1 on harley and 2 on jap bikes n none of em cared lol. ne way I just said to meself "fukem all" lol
Not that many years ago there were a few different signs to acknowledge and let the oncoming rider know that the road ahead was OK.
The thumbs up was prolly the best one to see from anyone, the wave down usually meant slow down.
Most of that in the early days was pommy influence I think.
Now a simple finger wave ar a nod of the head seems to be it,,, and very rarely returned.
Riding on the right side of the road is prolly why the majority of European and American riders will always give a low left hand wave.
Ya can get some funny reactions to waving at a car full of chicks with ya tounge, specially if it's longer than five inches and uncontrollabley flapping around in the wind !
Had a good 300 odd k ride today through the wine country with my boy on the back, and i too am an avid nodder. Usually get 50% aknowledgment but i believe the reason they dont nod back is because they were not looking at me in the first place. 50% of the non nodders were all squinting at looking at how bright and shiney Tigger is, and the jappers are just blown away at this huge spaceship coming towards them they tend to move to the other side of the road in panic mode. Well thats my take on it and i don't give a fugg if they dont wave or nod either. I'm havin my fun and only the fuzz can take that away from me.
I ride a sporty, so even the postie looks the other way when I wave
For me if you get a 50% response back its a good day. There are enough distractions for a rider as it is so I can forgive those who don't see or don't give a shit. Whatever way I'll continue to nod and acknowledge as long as my sump plug faces the road
