Machined finish on any of the pieces (we can't see the other side)? Are the pieces light or heavy? Plastic or metal? Magnetic?

Worrying thing is that there may be more at the bottom of the crank case. It looks like a cam locking tool used at assembly. I reckon the idiot on the line dropped it and didn't bother to retrieve as it would have stopped the line.

I think you are on the money there AJ56,
looks like an assembly lock that should have been removed...

Im with AJ. If it was metal tear it down asap. But when you said plastic I thought cam locking tool straight away.

Looks like just the front bit that fits between the gears as the rest of the block is usually fairly large. Probably find some more bits in the filter and tank. Worth the time to inspect and clean.

Could be one of the teeth from the tool, but they are flat not rounded as Hilly has suggested. I still think something during assembly on the Engine line. If you have a look at the Utube Video of the assembly line they don't have a lot of time... And if something does go wrong then it just gets missed as is the case here. The pers on the line have bugger all time and it may have been a Monday Morning after a big weekend on the Moonshine.....LOL

This post may be a bit late but guesstimating these objects look very similar to a hardened and obviously fatigued oil seal, the bakerlite observation alerted me.

The only place that I can think of were these findings might come from is the outside oil seal between the left hand crankcase and primary inner case. I dont have the knowledge or experience to comment on this further but, I am not sure if operational use would alert you to chenoballed primary oil seal, maybe check the primary oil level.
Some of the older ,read much more experienced members ie evo, could possibly offer assistance.

Just a thought for a guy who has helped many others.

    Man, that is weird!!

I doubt if its the locking too. There is now way you could have closed it up with the tool still attached.

Mate, I feel for you - It's going to wig you out every time you start the frigging thing.

Just had another thought hilly, could it have been a sealant or jointing compound that has been applied in excess and run down to the bottom of a housing before it set hard ?

Could it be from the outside and somehow ended up in the cover before you replaced it last time.

Mabey something that was laying around the workshop
