i went to 8" then to 14" apes, i've been thinking about putting on 2" rises as well. Its really hit and miss mate, just keep going higher until you are happy with the ride/looks. I use road6customs as their bars are not only build good but are also cheap. oh and rule of thumb, if you get 14" bars get the cable for 10" bars, as the Drag Specialities ones are usually very long. With mine im using the diamond black clutch and brake cables for 8" bars and stock throttle cables.  Im 5'6 and my fists are just above my sholders for reference. i can ride all day like this.

Just ordered 12" from Road6Customs. Was looking at 10", but bars complete with cable kit start at 12". They say you always want bigger anyway, and I wanted the cable kit to make it easier.

Shall let you know how the install goes.

    Cheers.

How much grief do you get for being outside the Australian Design Standards on bar heights? if any

i.e. Height of the lowest pary of the handgrip must not be more than 380mm above the lowest part of the upper surface of the riders seat

I'm building some rabbit ears ATM that are sort of complient..... :)

i like the look of Apes!

Just looking at the pic of your blue sporty, long front end low at the rear, then put apes & add a 90cubic inch motor, you will never need a front wheel .

    cheers mate good luck

Goto bunnings and buy some 1inch electrical condute, get 4 right angle bends and make a set of test bars to work out what height / width / angle / pull back works for you, use a heat gun to bent it.

IMO - Apes look great but ride like shit! I had a set of 14' Burly Brand apes on for a while and never really liked them. Its all about what you're going comfortable with, I'm not comfortable having to tighten them regularly, having them slip (and they will) from time-to-time when you're riding and on rougher than average roads they're horrendous!

Again this was only my own experience with them.

I would say if you wanted to buy them, buy bars that have in-built risers. Look at the Zombie Performance website, he does great looking bars and a lot of them have built in risers.

i first went from stock bars to 8" bars, all the stock stuff will fit (iron) but the clutch will be a little tight and you'll need to stretch out the brake line, i also didnt need to extend the wiring. When i went to the 14" apes i needed a new clutch and brake lines, wiring needed to be extended but im still using the stock throttle cables....all depends on how you route them.
