Gearing on 883/1200 conversion

I had the dealer do my conversion prior to taking delivery of my bike.  I've often wondered about whether or not doing a gearing / pulley conversion would be worth while? I've done a number of long trips but have not found the vibration or fuel usage to be excessive.  Keen to hear what others have experienced / think.

    Hi Ian
Did the 883/1200 SE conversion a few years ago. As they say, around town, just leave it. As I do mainly long rides, I was sick of always looking for the extra gear when in 5th. Because I'm a big boy, I went with the 29 tooth pully, (ordered through HH), which works really well for me, cutting the revs down in 5th, with still good pulling power. I also do a lot of windy stuff, otherwise I might have gone with a 30 tooth pulley. With the 29 tooth, I didn't have to change the belt size, leaving the 883 belt on.

I don't know exactly, & sometimes I'm still looking for the extra gear in top, but it did help reduce the annoying revs in 5th on the hiway, & seemed to make for a smoother ride. I guess that if I wanted to do better than $180, I should fit the 30 tooth & appropriate belt, but it goes good enough for me.

P.S. I got the 29 tooth through Peter Stevens....only cost in the vacinity of $70 from memory.

Even though I don't tend to do that much highway work I always change the 883 transmission pulley for a 1200, normally in the first service, on all my 883's. They tend to end up a 1200 or larger in time anyway may as well have the pully too.
I plan to put one on the wife's Superlow at the next service. We just came back from a three day ride and she was trying to explain the searching for another gear feeling to me when we were on the freeway/highway crusing along at the limit.
