Keyless ignition cost and availability

Howdy, wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of keyless ignition.  I have heard of it and am thinking that it might be useful for the bike.  I only use the ignition key on its own in the barrel, I keep the security fob on me when riding.  If I didn't have to fiddle with the key and could just jump on and ride away that would be heaps good.

Any reference points, anyone done it, or care to share any feedback?

    Cheers

@Ballofski, do Harley make a keyless ignition on the new models?

I'll check up on things a bit over the weekend, jsut htought i'd check in here as there's always someone with ideas and experience.

a few traps with the new system,
you can fall into the habit of not using the key to LOCK the ignition, not real secure even if you will only be a few minutes

    or

you go out fire up the bike and all is good then decide it's to hot for a jacket so go take it off.
jump on the bike and away you go.
A message comes up to say No Fob but your not looking at the dash.
All is good until you turn it off and then discover the fob is at home in your jacket and you haven't learned the PIN # system

Just a 2012 Iron, the ignition barrel sits on the right hand side.  I don't keep other keys or the security fob on it.  If I do it flaps around in the wind.  I was thinking it would be very handy to just be able to walk up to the bike and hit the start button.

I looked on the 'net and came accross Digital Guard Dawg.  Watched the video, it's exactly what I was after, using RFID, but the price.....$429USD, bit much...

Still check out the link it's interesting stuff.

    Cheers for input guys,

FWIW, I could always just put a hidden toggle switch somewhere, but I like the security idea.  In the end I still have to use a  key for the steering lock, so I may as well keep using the ignition key...

If your thinking of going to a kill switch I have used the idea before on bikes and cars.

I use a boat type kill switch as they take a heavier cable and the key can be removed when you feel the need.

You could wire the ignition in the ON set up and then use the kill switch on the main cable. You may need to re wire the alarm if you have one fitted.

Thanks Ozzymax, the idea was more around not having to use the key to start /stop the bike.

I found this link to the Motogadget stuff, which is german gear.  It's well made too.  I nearly went ofr the combo speeed/tacho unit then in the end picked up the HD unit.

When I read the info on the Motogadget site it states their unit is not recommended for use with bikes immobilisers.  Also the switching distance is a lot closer than the Dawg unit.  Although it is a lot cheaper...$171AUD approx.

In all I reckon i'll just keep using the key, as I need to set the steering lock anyway.

the pin comes with the bike and should be passed on from owner to owner. Then change it of course.
As long as you can show ownership the dealers will re code it for you if you don't have the pin.

Try the digitalguardawg site. They have two versions. One is just an immobiliser and the other is keyless. Just walk up and hit the kill switck and away you go. Looks simple to fit. Just replace a relay and find ikll switch wire. Havent seen one'but have read about it. Not sure how it will work with Harleys key fob thing.

I have the perect keyless ignition, Just dont lock the fucker!  For In the end analyses, it's really a wast of time going overboard on security of your bike, as the old school philosophy on the suject still is : 1. Securiy, alarms,  locks etc, are only designed to keep honest people out. 2. If a proffesional thief wants something you own, it's gone! So understanding these Philosophy, My ignition has never been locked, the bike is allarmed with a remote pager as well as a current drain senser & fully insured. Between that & your FOB key I can't see much use in anything else!
