It really is money well spent. I just fitted the nrhs 1250 kit myself not long ago. Was an easy job and a few good afternoons spent in the garage. I took time with it and didnt rush it. I'm a fitter by trade and have rebuilt a few motors in the past but i paid extra care with the bike. You know how it is....

Haven't looked into cams and heads yet as $$ are low for a little while. Can always (will) be done in the future. Even just the cylinders with the stock 883 heads and cams is a vast improvement. I'm just running the bike in on the road, no dyno.

My run-in is almost done. I live in a small town and there is a good road with no traffic that i can run the revs up and down in 2nd 3rd and 4th with no lag. Almost ready for a v-tune after i dump the current oil.

Well I guess T1 if the pussy method is what Hammer & NRHS recommend then I'm stickin with it. Everyone to their own I guess. Bike is pulling fairly hard 3-4k even without full throttle & running smooth as.

I think it depends what the piston to bore clearance is, for high performance sportsters or Big Twins more clearance is the go, for long lasting street motors that won't see high rev's tighter piston to bore. but just have to take a bit more care runing in, not to let motor get too hot for say few thousand once you run it in it's wearing out LOL.

but what piston to bore clearance do you have?

Just a side note, back in the early 2000's , a mate up QLD used to drag race new Twin Cam's the dealer up there gave him, he also taught the dealers customers who were interested how to take there bikes down quater mile the quickest & safest as they had a Screaming Eagle race series with about 30 compeating. i used to ride up from Sydney sometimes to compeat . we the guy would get a brand new off showroom floor dyna twin cam( Sporter not much different) he would start off bone stock doing about 13 seconds & with in 5 or 6 pass's would be runing 12.6 consistent bone stock i think 6,000rev WOT out the box just got quicker as it done a few pass's & freed up.

I rev my TC with new rebuilt motor to 7,200 after heat cycles just gets quicker each pass.

what piston to bore clearance do Hammer send the motors out @?

+1 to getting on it and riding it like you stole it. AFTER WARMING IT UP! There is no 'heat treating' to be done to rings, they need to wear in, and fast. Don't be afraid to give it a few good hard twists on the throttle, you're not going to break it. All tolerances are already there. Just vary the revs for the first 1000kms, don't sit on the freeway for anymore than a couple of kms without a few down and up shifts, need to keep pressure on the rings so there's no glazing happening.
