keep you all posted how i go
also my 883 heads cylinders and pistons will be for sale
Sweet
thx guys cant wait to get it some of it will be here this week so will be able to start!!!!
Any progress with your heads or are they sitting in the queue? Slap.
yep had 10 to do in front of mine hopefully get them back firsy week in jan, slap are you going to change front sprocket for a29
Yeah I saw Dan had mentioned being bogged down with headwork.
I've thought about the 29T would be good for the open road, it throws the speedo out a tad but there's a speedo corrector available http://883sportster.webs.com/apps/webstore/products/show/2581691 . I'll see how it rides once it's run in then go from there.
What are you doing for pushrods?
Slap.
yeah be using the std ones slap
Great 666, will be good to see how it performs, i think you could be wise to get adjustable push rods just in case lenths of barrels different.
Slapster how is your hammer kit performing?
if you guys are in NSW would be good to see you down the track, they are starting a new V twin class in March hope we see some Victories so i can see what they perform like.
daddyracer57 had some new SE sportster heads he was going to work on & showed me some SE high top pistons made to match the bathtub chamber for 11.5 comp & showed me what cams, that goes into a new Sporster that will be at the track to race in the V Twin class so come & have a go.
cheers
also i got two other mates talking about buying hammer 1250 jugs but they want to do there own heads here in AU & they are designing there own pistons will get JE to make them one of them has a set of new sporty heads now and is doing flow testing also told me he will try 1.9 intake valves & 2.0 inch intake valves to see if they will flow more air he is sticking with stock cams going very high comp like 11.5 i think & is going to machine the stock throtle body make larger butterfly but this guy is real slow as always busy.
Nah 883 ones supposed to be same length ????
i don't know m8 as never measured length of those barrels or the new 883, but you never take a motor that was set up in USA and just use it as it comes. you check the bore is perfectly clean as some don't spend much time washing the machined metal or honing stone out the bore. you have to clean them & clean then check you can't get anything on a perfect white tissue when you wipe the bore out, any black on that tissue is grit that is going to wear your motor out faster. then you measure bore to piston clearance to see if straight & true then you check with clay the swish clearance valve clearance if swish band greater than say 45 thou, you might need to shorten barrels or thinner head gaskets. so you might find stock push rods too long , if you already have adjustable like S&S or Andrews you can adjust them. just alowes you to set up motor better. the S&S & Andrews make stonger also lighter push rods any weight savings in valve train is good if its also stronger. good luck m8 wish i was getting the kit for Xmas.
yep thx for that slap my build is not as wild as yours though and your cams have a lot higher lift i surpose ah well worse case have to get ad pushys see how it goes
Slap, forgot to look where you were, thats always hard finding time & good weather to ride. i rack up a lot of k's somehow.
i love racing & useing the track to check what works what doesn't. if you can get down Kwana ( spelt wrong ) you should take it down quarter mile, forget about the time just look at trap speed. the faster the speed the more power to weight you have. fast trap speed slow time just means rider needs to improve, if you do 120mph in speed traps 1/4 mile your got a ten second bike you just have to learn to use all you got, if you got 108mph thats good for high 11's if your times are slow speed high, u look at how long you take to do 60ft if its slow like 1.8 seconds or more you need to improve off the line. everyone has there own style so no set way to go quick.
what cam's are you useing? & what compression? also have you done a cranking pressure check? if so how many pound cranking pressure. we have had some great bike racers from NZ!! First one i ever saw was Graham Crozby on a Z1R Kwaka loved watching him race!
ah time for an update barrels and pstons turned up yesterday and cams havnt got to view them yet as still in nz on holis this is cruel!!!!! rest should be here in a couple weeks slow everything this time of year bummer
