Ikons are a good thing, they are local and their service is great. What i dont like about the progressives is that you are not able to get the spring and shock made for your weight and riding style like you can with the Ikons. My opinion is that they are worth the extra $400 as a properly setup suspension will not only handle better but also break and steer better. When it comes to things that keep you upright i personally dont take and short cuts, as an extra $400 to keep my skin where it is.....is well worth it.

If you are on a tight budget the Progressives are fine.  They are 100% better than the stock factory rubbish shockers which are cheap and nasty.  If you can afford the extra money, go for the Ikons.

You'll also need to upgrade your front springs and change the fork oil while you're at it.  If you're still using the stock Dunlop tyres throw them away and put a decent brand of tyre on too.  (Metzeler, Pirelli etc)

The bike will handle way better than stock!

if you go for the progressives, they don't have a 11 3/4 shock length like your std C, go to 12 inch, not 11.5 like i did, amazing how many potholes are 1/2 inch deeper than you'd like em to be...

most comments relate to handling and comfort. but what 's the best option for lowering the arse end as well?

I originally had planned to drop it 1-2 ", but have read many negative comments re Slammer kits etc.

do you choose looks over comfort? or is it not worth the sore arse! it still needs to handle.

yeah im on the fence with this, i go for both looks and handling if possible, i have set mine up to have the best of both worlds (well as much as you can) also being a short ass i needed my bike to remain low. This is one of the main reasons why i havnt fitted the dyna front fork sliders as it will raise the front 1 1/2 inches. I use Ikon 11" rears and they are fine for my weight (60kilos) and 2up. i usually leave the rear preload set to minium 90% of the time, but if i put a fat cunt on the back i need to turn it up. My bike rides mostly fine but you will notice the bigger bumps as a shorter spring will always be stiffer as it will have less travel.  I've done some long trips on my bike and gotten off it fine.

I went with Burly Slammers cause a) I found a good deal on them and b) the lowered arse looks shit hot. After installing, could feel every ripple in the road, felt like I was riding on the rim. First shop ride I nearly got bounced off at one point catching up with the pack. I thought, fark, what have I done? But I played around with the load setting and perserveered.

I guess I've adjusted cause I'm happy with them now and not thinking of changing them at all. I just have to remember to slow down for speed humps in the car parks. Also I heard they are made by the same company as Progressives so good quality, but the spacers started to get surface rust after the first run in the rain.

PS. I'm generally choose style over comfort anyway. That's why I bought a Harley in the first place.

At the end of the day if they are not setup for "YOUR" weight and riding style all brands will feel shit. Any decent brand setup correctly will be good. Besides YSS, Ikon are the only others that i know of that have exceptional service. With parts like this store frontage is a must.

    Hi guys

I am looking at adding progressive 412 13 inch to my 2005 xl1200r sportster, I weigh around 94kgs and ride with a gear pack most of the time but also do some two up riding. What are recommendations either heavy duty springs or standard?
