hey people,,,I been going throught threads to no avail.  pro's and con's for lowering a Softail. I got these colors from Blazeing Bikes from over there that will drop the arse 2" or 1.5'

A dude said don't do it,,it will tank slap

another said you will need to adjust the belt...cool.

then I read I'll need to stiffen the shocks a bit,,,on our roads,,,,yeah rite.

I also read it will shorten the life of the belt?? I'm 75kg and the cooks 55kg,,,but the cherished one has her own bike,,,but might climb on occassionally.

    any feed back please.

    cheers Jimmy

    G'day Jimmy

Can't comment on the lowering product you have but in general there is no big issue.

Having said that, I have lowered by 1" (2005 softail springer) and from a clearance perspective, I wouldn't really want to push it much further.

At 75kg I imagine the lower the better for you - try a moderate drop (lets say an inch) coupled with a slim, well shaped seat and you will get you arse closer to the ground and maintain resonable ground clearnace.

    Show us a photo !

    Good luck

Mine is lowered. Tanks slap my arse!!

I have pulled my rake and trail down to its limits and it still rides fine! Fuck I hate these wankers that talk through their arse and give advice that is just plain wrong!!

So I weigh about the same as you! I have lowered 2 inches from memory, and I have 4 degree raked trees with 2 inch overs. I have a larger 18 inch rear wheel, and a larger 19 inch front and its fine. I do have a slight wobble at slow speed, but that was brought on by the new wheels. Before that, it was rock solid.

Here it is in the crate before it was lowered.

    And here it is now.

Dropped my Fatboy 1.5 inches no tank slapping but plenty of scrapping around roundabouts but no big deal you get used to it. forgot to mention i am 120kg and the missus about 60kg so the shocks get a good work out not that she gets on the back that much.

Yep - I use to scrape, but the 19 inch front fixed that! :)
