l posted this a few days back on the workshop page but didnt get a bite,
ill give it a go here...
Trying to work out what pinion shaft l have suits what motor? its a big twin ....
its on a set of flywheels ive got, mocaso60's . ive got nothing to compare it to, but looking at it id say its probably 1971ish to late 70's.. it just looks that bit to long to run on a pan motor,
it measures 145mm from the end of the shaft to the flywheel,
any body got some of these lying around??
or if you know the corrct lenth for a 58-63 ish pan motor sing out.....as well.....
part numbers wont be any good to me ...cause theres none on it....
Thanks........
I,d be trying Harley Tech Talk or www.hydraglide web site in the US, hope this helps.
l shall 8080..ive been member on that site for a few years now,,its not urgent more curious than anything..
Thanks Dave,
if reboring & honing is something they do there,
l could drop off a set of 80ci barrols for boring & have a chat about pinion shafts then as well...
is there a site for SER, l havnt heard of them, always looking for a quality joint that can set up flywheels,
bore, hone, weld alloy, e.t.c. for early bike motors ...
Hi Kickinon,
Pinion shaft. Larger size 1.250" diameter from 58 0n. Earlier models 48-57 used a variety of different ones.
2 types for Big Twin 58 on,
1- # 24006-58 Fits 58 to 72 Oil feed on the side of the shaft.
2- # 24006-73 Fits 73 on. Oil feed on the end of the shaft.
Hope this helps,
Cris.
on the early shovel & pans from what i remmember the oil feed hole is on the side of the end of the shaft that goes in the cam cover pinion bush about 1970 up the oil feed is in the end of the shaft if it's & aftermarket pinion shaft the oil feed hole will be in the end only original early were the side oiler
