Active Air cleaners and exhausts

    Hey all,

Got my new PV and Fuel Moto billet air cleaner and installed the AC today on the 2012 FLSTC.

As I was taking the old AC off, I had to unplug an electrical connection to the intake that looks like it activated a little flap to enlarge intake area. Is this the active AC? There was of course no where to re-install it and I was wondering if this would matter - can't see that it would.

On other things active, what is the go with the cable on the stock headers that seems to open up the balance pipe at certain throttle openings. Is it to control noise, emissions? What is it's function please? Is it good practice to wedge it open all the time?

Is there a setting that a tuner can control this?

    Thanks

    Wayne

    Nice Alloy

    washable element

    All done and original looking.

    Thanks Will,

I don't have fault light at the moment but will follow up on your advice.

Is there any advantage in keeping the exhaust flapper valve open?

    cheers

WTF is an 'active' air filter?

California emission control units for the induction and exhaust noise. All export bikes are CA EPA bikes made to comply with each country of destination. Laws are getting tougher and our air cooled HD's will be water or oil cooled in the next few years to meet the EPA. TTS has the software to turn off the flappers but not sure about the other tuners.

    Thanks HogBag,

Does anyone know if there is a setting in PV that can disable it?

    cheers

    Ah Hah!

I got it into open mode and unplugged the solenoid motor plug.

Man now it goes and sounds like it should. The Fuel Moto tune makes sense. Rode through the neighbourhood and everyone says - "That's how a Harley should sound!" Yeah Baby :-)

    Goes so well.

    Hey Baloffski,

I am showing no fault codes either after pulling out the exhaust actuator and changing the air cleaner and leaving off the solenoid. So i dont think I need a BIg Jo Gizmo, but might just get them to keep the plugs clean and them cable tie them out of the way. Mine's a 12 FLSTC.

    Hey Bob,

They are 2 separate things. You can disconnect the exhaust actuator and leave the air cleaner wiring connected. If you take off your (standard) air cleaner and backing plate, you will see where the connection is made , and can leave it plugged in. It's a physical connection. Then start the bike and disconnect the exhaust actuator under the rear exhaust.

    cheers
