Just fittted an 18 inch screen to my 1998 Fat Boy. Now experiencing terrible wind buffetting around the helmet. To the point vision is blurred. Uncomfortable. Any suggestions? cut it down shorter? Cut it narrower? Throw it away? other options?

Try scrunching your body down lower so your helmet is lower and see if the air flow is smoother then try lifting your butt off the seat so your head is high and see if the airflow is smoother then try leaning forward so your head is closer.

That'll give you some idea where the 'smooth' air pocket that you're chasing is and if your screen needs to be taller, shorter or wider to reduce the buffeting.

Yeah, I have the same problem with my 2010 Fatty. The windscreen does help remove the buffeting from traffic, but introduces a vibration like buffeting of the helmet. A yes It does tend to blur the vision along with a headache after a while.

I have seen a thread somewhere that it was suggested fitting lowers to the bike. Don't know how that will work, but a few people I have talked to have said the same thing.

I thought about getting some, but not sure how to fit them to the Fatty. I have a light bar fitted and that may make it difficult.

Anyone who has fitted lowers to a Fatty, can you offer some help?? Along with photos if possible.

    Thanks

When I asked this same question , Fish said the wind was coming from underneath the screen , and shooting up , causing the buffeting . I tried next time riding with the screen , and I put my left hand down around my knee . Sure enough , there is a real stream rushing up , you can feel the edge of it when you move your hand around . Magilla has some stainless steel lowers mounted to the  fork legs of his Fatty , maybe he can shed some more light ?

Fitted lower deflectors to my 2006 Heritage and it stopped all buffeting. Have now fitted the lower deflectors to my 2010 Road King and they have stopped the buffeting as well. The buffeting does come from under the windscreen. Harley deflectors are under $100 and a great fix for longer trips.

Lowers will do the trick for sure!! It's the air clashing together. Get lowers, and your problem will go away! :)

If you check out some of the other brand naked tourers, ie kwaka vulcan, they usually have factory lowers fitted as part of the screen assbly. Have a look at the set up and copy it for your bike. It's a common issue. National cycle have a bolt on kit. Check out their website.
