How about this....

On a Ride with a heap of Harleys today , go about an hour or so through some very windey roads ( Gorge Rd ) , and stop at a pub for a break , as you do . As we,re all pulling in , the sound of a large air release is heard over the bikes . We all get off the bikes and go to a Softail with air pissing out of the snapped off valve stem on the rear wheel .Turns out he had a chrome bullet type bling cap , that had been fitted when bike was near new ( 12 mths old ) .The boys were saying that as the brake pads are wearing the caliper is moving slightly inwards . There mustn,t have been much clearance to start with , but the cap has come into contact with the rear caliper and sheared the stem off ! If this had happened 5km earlier !!!!! He managed to find the valve and cap on the ground and screw the valve back into the remaining couple of threads and inflate the tyre and limp home .

Any one heard this one before ?

Makes you think how much something so simple can be so devastating at 100!! :(

yeah exactly , the simple things , ya wouldn`t really hear it until it blows out , seen the same thing with someone using round "8 ball" type valve caps , it happens if they`re too bulky or heavy !

You would want to hope that you would feel it going flat with enough time to slow down, but shit it would be scary!!

Have to agree with ya on the tubeless. Many years ago I had a GPZ550 & going around a really tight bend (luckly at 20k/hr) the front wheel washed out & came off. Got the bike home & took the tyre off & the tube had split on one of it's panel joins. Bought a lotto ticket & didn't win a bloody thing......but still thought I was a lucky prick!

Not sure if a tubeless would have made any difference in that case.

I prefer tubes in my tyres, but I have to say dealing with a flat in a tubeless tyre is much easier (in the get home in emergency flat type thing...)
